Your opinions will help determine what I do with this 1891 Morgan

I need some opinions before I can decide what to do with this coin...
What looks like marks on the neck and cheek are actually shadows being cast from the lighting and scratches on the slab.

Don't clean it, don't dip it, don't slab it. It's fine as is.

<< <i>From your question, I assume it is in a 64 slab, which is where I think it would max out at after numerous submission attempts. It would not reach a 65, PCGS is so strict with condition rarities, and it has hits that would limit it to a 63/64, in my opinion. >>
What he said. No way it goes 65, sorry...I've tried with better ones and gotten nowhere. They have to be perfect.

Another good reason not to SLAB coins......

If the slabbed grade is 63, probably worth an upgrade shot if you have full cartwheel luster. If the luster is less than full, it will probably stay 63 (don't crack, or you risk a 58).
Another good reason not to SLAB coins......

Better to let the coin take the hits instead of the slab!! Caint be scratchin up that nice new plastic now can we?

Everytime I see a scratched up slab, I try to imagine what the coin would look like if it had not been prtected by the plastic. I am not the biggest fan of slabs in the hobby but to realize their benefits in many ways, this one included.

Either way I wouldn't remove the originality of the coin by dipping it; I'd send it in as a regrade in the holder.
If it's a 64 you may consider submitting thru a regrade submission but i don't think she'll go 65. PCGS is very picky handing out 65's for this date....basically it needs to look like a 66 to get in a 65 holder.
Even if you don't get the upgrade at least you'll get a new holder minus the scratch.

I agreee--if it is currently in a 64 slab leave it alone. If in a 63--leave it alone--probably won't go 64 next time.
