Glad the thread took a polite turn (frankly, you card folk tend to be a lot nicer than the coin guys - IMO) but I do hope this works out to cmoking's satisfaction.
If I could butt in here and go back to the card in question...weren't all cards hand cut back in 1910? Is it possible that PSA determined the card had not been altered from its original state? In other words, thats the way it was cut in 1910. This seems to be the probable reason for PSA assigning a grade to the card.

I don't think this is the case. I've emailed a couple of other E93 collectors and none of them have ever handled or seen a graded E93 card with a cut like Hooks Wiltse. It could be handcut from a sheet like the one posted above, but if so, it should not be graded. This is not a handcut issue like a W514 or other strip cards. PSA wouldn't grade a Goudey that was handcut from a factory sheet, and they shouldn't. The same with this E93 Wiltse. See the following cards from the same set, the cuts are straight just like most other cards. Please keep in mind thought that although I am pretty sure that there is a problem with the Wiltse, maybe there is something I am not aware of. I've certainly been wrong before on other issues.
BTW, thanks to everyone for the nice comments. Happy holidays!
I received a phone call from PSA today. They told me they agree the card is trimmed. They cracked out the card and they are sending it back to me. As well as sending me a check. They did the right thing, and that is really good to see.

Is the check for the amount you paid for the card?
"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
good to hear they made good on their guarantee, I had a problem that was missed on a modern football card, and they downgraded the card and very fairly compensated me for the difference in price. Wow, schr1st, guess you have been fired from your job for every mistake you have made. If they did as you say, there would be no more graders, they are just human.
They are just human and grading is a subjective enterprise, but PSA presents itself as an authority on these issues. If members of the 1 Percent Nation can easily recognize that card as trimmed, then certainly the alleged experts should be able to do so. Not saying the guy should be fired, but the situation just heightens that my suspicions that a) the typical third-party grader is to this hobby as a McDonald's fry cook is to the culinary arts, b) only one grader looks at the overwhelming majority of cards submitted and c) he or she does so really, really quickly and with little or no oversight.

That's what they told me when they called. In this particular case, I think the SMR vs the price are paid are very close, I don't know if that was a factor or not.

Thank you PSA. Thank you Joe Orlando.
