Questions Regarding Date Sets

I'm thinking about putting a 1906 date set together in honor of my grandfather's birth year. I'm assuming that a date set means ALL U.S. coin issues for that particular year - including gold. No?

Also does the PCGS Registry recognizes date sets? I looked on the registry and didnt see any "date" sets.

It sounds like a noble set, but it's entirely up to you what coins to include. Unless you want to put it in a PCGS registry, like 100proof1957's link, in which case it's entirely up to them.

    Gold sure is purty, tho'...
  • you can do MS no gold,MS w/Gold or Proofs

MS in this case does not have to be Mint State but rather circ strikes in any grade

    i started an 1857 Set w gold

  • I like your idea. A high grade ciculated (any MM) set would be real doable with no need to include gold. Now to pick a nit--have always thought a "date set" to be a run of dates (e.g., one Morgan per year 1878 through 1921 w/o regard to MM) and a "year set" to be coins minted in a given year e.g., 1906.
    Curmudgeon in waiting!
