    Bluntly put

this is PCGS's playground and we have to follow their rules or we are gone

    simple as that

Other than than the few who committed suicide by moderator, I believe many of the
banned users could get back in if they merely expressed an interest. Most simply don't
want to come back. You can tell in their comments on other boards and their PM's.

I think this place was better when some of the most knowledgeable banned people were
here but I also think we can build back up to it given enough time. Let's hope the more
    civil tone will still prevail.

Here's how I feel. I've been collecting since 1978 and I've seen it all. And I have always thought that this was the best place for helpful, knowledgeable advice as opposed to the insipid forum on eBay. But the one thing I didn't like was that there was a definite sense of mean spiritedness on the part of some people. You can get enough of that in day to day life, you don't need it here. And the requests that David Hall made seem reasonable.

Click your heels together three times and say "there's no place like ATS, there's no place like ATS, there's no place like ATS".
  • From my experience, people here have been very helpful. I have also seen a lot of non-sense and drama; I choose to ignore it. I am with CladKing on this point, I would like to see the boards pick themselves up and start all over again.

That said, I am sorry to see Coinguy1 and Conder go, they were definitely assets to these boards.

Well...obviously I'm missing coinguy1 and [especially] Conder101...may I be so bold as to ask why these two individuals are no longer among us? Mark would give you a [brutally] honest opinion about a coin you had posted...which was fine with me. Conder101 was just a wealth of information about just about anything that was spendable at some point.

Actually, I have purchased a number of coins from Don ... he is a great dealer and has an inventory to die for. I also like his Seated Liberty and Trade Dollars: an area collecting that is expensive, but an incredible value if you look at the pops.

I look at Don's inventory weekly, as well as recieving a e-mail on his new purchases. Don always has killer DMPLS. My best one came from him!

    Neither was Conder101. >>

Agreed. I've enjoyed his posts and wisdom as well, though, to be honest, pre-emptively stating "I don't think I will be posting anymore because I can't see myself abiding by the rules...." wasn't the best thing to say at that time. Though, I really do doubt that Conder101 would have posted anything close enough to get booted if he had posted. He is a pretty intelligent poster and not one to just antagonize.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Wonder what they posted that PGCS found to be bannable?

Cause both were full of good info on many areas of the coin biz and knew their coins very well

And both were bluntly honest in what they said

Their info will be missed greatly here on the forum

Ya know what? it might be the same old "back stabbing, defamatory statements" etc (good adjectives by the way) but everyone realizes it's in jest 99% of the time and doesn't get all bent out of shape and go cry to Mr or Mrs Moderator screaming that their little feelings got hurt.

Perhaps is was people who are still here that drove the circumstances to be what they were because they're skin is too thin and they had to go hide behind the threats of turning the "bad guys" in to the moderators instead of not getting involved where they obviously shouldn't have.

You could be correct. However, is it right to impune those who got bashed for having "thin skin" when those who did the bashing do so unmercilously. I have been bashed on this forum more than anyone, but then it takes a lot more than what has been dished out on this anonymous forum to irk me. But, if in fact you are correct, I do not think it out of line for numismatic professionals to complain that their forum has become a shooting gallery for anonymous wiley posters to malign their businesses and livelihood. And, some of the BS that shows up on this forum is in fact defamatory for which PCGS can be held liable once they are made aware of such libel. It is in PCGS' best interest ... and potentially their legal responsibility ... to curb such behavior. I just hope that the few remaining Circle survivors can tone it down a bit before the entire forum goes *poof* and we all lose this amazing numismatic resource. However, after tonight, my hope is dwindling.
  • silverpopsilverpop Posts: 6,738 ✭✭✭✭✭
    Agreed

I'm amazed that PCGS hasn't pulled the plug yet

and they might if things keep going as they are

  • Both parties were at fault to a certain extent. I'm not saying the ones who left or were banned were 100% innocent. However, if the ones being picked on couldn't take it, then the solution is simple.

Remove yourself from the situation. Meaning, dont fuel the fire. There are some good smack talkers out there and when someone who cant hang tried to and were beat down and he/she couldnt take it, he/she eventually ran off and whinned about being made fun of or called bad names or whatever. Hell, I got ridiculed alot because of my interest in paranormal research. I laugh it small minded people who tried to call me names just becaues they have different beliefs. But, thats beside the point.

I'm NOT callin anyone a troll, but what is the best way to get rid of one? IGNORE IT and it'll leave. Problem solved. Same thing in concept. If you cant take the heat, get outta the kitchen and stay within your comfort zone.

  • << <i>If you cant take the heat, get outta the kitchen and stay within your comfort zone. >>

I agree with you ... however, I think that some may have chosen to try to turn down the heat instead. And, those that own the kitchen have simply asserted their right to remove the stove altogether .

    image

PS - If the old guard could have discussed "hot button" issues like you and I are, as opposed to resorting to personal attacks and name calling, none of this would be an issue.

  • I agree that that happened sometimes too.

so...solution? be the bigger man and walk away. Problem solved. the "trouble maker" would find someone else to pick on soon enough.

but thats not what happened. they hung out and allowed themselves to be baited in to deeper and deeper kimchee until they were beyond pissed and went and complained.

missed the PS you put in there the first time.

yeah, maybe, but we'll never know.

My whole take on this is

    Opinions are just words

either take those opinions given with a grain of sand or at face value

some have taken opinions at face value and didn't like the value so they complained to a mod

Others like myself take opinions with a grain of sand and move on without complaining

Again just depends on the person and how they take opinions

    well said.
