My Humble Opinion Regarding The New PCGS Forum ...

... I am definitely not slighting any particular group of individuals, but it sure seems more friendly and civil here since the changing of the guard. I know that it has only been a few days, but that is my impression so far. Coins are still being discussed, ebay scammers are still being outed, "be your own TPG" slabs are still being laughed at ... but cruel aspersions are no longer being cast. I like it!

I even like the circulation find threads - but the techie and history stuff like the 8 reals thread is the best!

Seems to be working out pretty decently. Was almost painfully slow getting things started back up though.

I don't know. It seems a whole lot less coin-oriented and a whole bunch more money-oriented. Look for example at the 1820 bust half thread. It's dead, and I think it's the restructuring which did it in.

The scary thing is, I suspect this is exactly what the higher-ups at PCGS wanted, as it fints in well with my impression of the companay with regrades to coin-orientation vs. money-orientation.

The forum seems a bit "dull" now. I feel as if this forum has turned into a bunch of people sitting around a fire talking about money issues more than the fun of collecting.

The poking at each other is still there, you just have to look. image

Some people may have needed to be dumped but Mark Feld was not one of them. His loss is, and will remain for as long as he is gone, a huge loss to the forum.
It's holidays and that is the reason for some of the noted change.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

  • I've turned in to a lurker over here. There's nowhere to talk about my ghost hunts and since DH has made everyone scared to say whats on his/her mind because they think they'll be bammed, it's gotten pretty boring.

Still good coin threads here and there, but they tend to be more tame than Sesame Street nowadays.

I've been in communication with Mark. He's as gracious as he ever was. I look for cooler heads to prevail. Mark is not the type to bash. He didn't send his love or nothin' but he sent warm wishes for the holiday season.

The forum has turned into Coin Discussion Lite, in my opinion, since some very knowledgeable posters have left. I don't think it has changed for the better.

  • Mark and Conder getting bammed was a big hit to the forum, IMHO. That's a lot of knowledge and integrity to lose at one time. I concur with others who hope that cooler heads will eventually prevail in the situation.

    AU with altered surfaces.

I'll miss those two quite a bit. I'm still fairly new to the hobby and reading their posts was something far beyond what I hoped to learn here. It's a true shame...

You really have two options for this Coin Forum to go.

The first is cutting edge discussions on coins, but with

some harsh truths being exposed, together with

heated exchanges and biting sarcasm. The second, is

a more mellow Forum, that is lite and less filling. The second

direction will tend to cause less complaining, less political unrest

and will be a duller, but with a more friendly atmosphere. I just don't see

a Forum emerging, with the best of both.

    Understatment of the year....

    zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..........

I'm thinking of starting an In God We Trust, gun control, and abortion thread - who's with me!!!??
  • Well, if you miss it, you can take a stroll across the street right now and find the old back stabbing, defamatory statements, unsubstantiated accusations, name calling, cruel BS that we used to have over here. Now you know that I can be a bit scrappy when attacked, but I much prefer the more civil atmosphere that is emerging on this forum as of late. And, if we can maintain a professional decorum, I bet that some of the true experts that have been hesitant to participate hereon because of the wild antics may just decide to cast a few pearls before us. It may be coin forum lite now, but I bet it emerges as an even more powerful source of information while across the street goes to pot.
