Bumanchu says "collect whatever you like, just don't worship your coins. "
If we didn't worship them to some extent, would they have value? Your thoughts, please.

Do you worship your car?
Do you worship food?
Do you worship other human beings?
They all have value.
Admittedly saying "to some extent" changes the tone a great deal. What I was referring to is going over the edge about them.
And yes much of life is about where you draw the line and often that is a difficult decision to make.
A coin is a coin in the end. But they (coins) can provide an avenue for enjoyment.

I think I worship most things that I collect. I organize, sort, play with, photograph, draw, catalog, and stare at my collections.

They also have utility. The coins we collect don't. They derive their value exlusively from our love and respect for them. In other words, coins are only valuable because we "worship" them. Granted, "worship" is not the word I would have used, but I think the point is valid.

"Keep your malarkey filter in good operating order" -Walter Breen
Some people buy coins almost compulsively, or with money better spent on their families, etc.
As a runner, I see too many others thinking that they can run faster / further if they continue increasing the intensity / durations of their workouts, and do so to the point of injuring themselves.
As an international traveller, I see some people so compulsively trying to get so many different entry stamps on their passports (there is a "century club" in this regard), that I wonder whether they really enjoy themselves while doing this.

I won't worship mine.
You do as you see fit.
And yes, there is a gray area as it is not black and white and I didn't intend to incite a polarizing discussion.
Guess I'll be more careful of what I post in the future.
Bumanchu - Do you know anyone that does? If so, please explain what "coin worship" looks like so we can make sure we're all talking about the same thing.

No, I don't know anyone who does.
I was making an off-handed comment in relation to the almost religious intonement that modern bashers use
in their affirmation that collectiing the classics is the only true coin collecting going on.
I was in my mind loosely categorizing that type of stance as being somewhat analogous to behavior typical of a religious zealot.
Perhaps, comments like mine are best left unposted, as little effect from the one in question or the thought behind it, however unlcear in its presentation, will be likely to sway anyone on the "other" side's opinion of "modern crap".
I like some of the Modern Crap and I dislike some of it, and for me the same can be said for all of the other coins ever minted in the history of man.
I hope this clarifies something.
And no, I'm not attempting to stir anything up.
Edited for spelling.
Cool! Another moderns-bashing thread!
OK, OK, seriously, now I get it. Thanks for the clarification.
