Is there anything wrong with these trade dollars?

Three red flags pop up with these auctions. The color, item location, and the fact that this seller's previous feedbacks are all from selling Herbalife products. Is there anything else off with the appearance of these trade dollars? Aside from the color do these these coins look real or fake? This isn't a test, I'm asking to learn.

The listings identify him/her as being a poor speller who is located in the U.S.

All of the coins look cleaned to me, but the quality of the photos isn't exactly great.
    When in doubt, don't.
  • I don't much, if anything, about trade dollars but will hazard a few thoughts. The color is just the photo lighting. The "coins" have what appear to be different toning patterns, cleanings and dirt in the devices. Others here will be able to give opinions about MM location, etc. I wouldn't pull the trigger until you hear from them.

I was getting that suspiscion of the possible "China connection" also from the fact that the seller uses the real estate credo for the item location, united states, united states, united states.

  • I would never purchase any ungraded trade dollar due to vast counterfiets, Iv'e seen too many individuals purchase these and gold coins only to have them come back BB by the grading services.. Stick to slabbed pcgs/ngc/anacs coins and you will enjoy this hobby much more.. image
  • All of the feedback from that seller is as an herbalife distributor. Probably he's physically located in China,
but uses drop shipping in the U.S., he can probably by ebay policy use the U.S. as his location because of it.
That's also why the writing is completely different in his feedback auctions, he was using a herbalife provided template.

now he's got a few feedbacks and he decides to go out on his own selling trade dollars. So he writes the auction, which is
obviously written by a different person than his past grammer.

the dollars look fake to me because of the denticles looking less than uniform. definetly one to stay away from imo.

Yep. Trades are one coin that you just shouldn't buy raw, unless you implicitly trust the seller. If TDN were selling the coin, no problem. Some random eBayer? Run away.

    Well said, Flaminio! I agree.

  • Look on the left side of the R in Trade on the reverse. You will see a gouge about in the middle. It is on all of the Trade dollars he has up for auction. I have never found a genuine Trade Dollar with this gouge on the left side of the R.

I don't know if I'd go THAT far. image

There have been sellers in the US with interesting stories behind their fake coins for years. One obviously sand cast trade dollar was supposedly "found in Singapore while [the seller] was snorkeling". I liked that story the best because it was so bad.
