Definately one of those coins that make you go "hmmmmm"....
My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable !
  • I wonder why he has it?

  • No telling what those guys over on the Darkside will come up with.

Best auction discretion I've seen in awhile.

Michael works in a coin shop and smoebody probably brought it in. I smoehow missed this one over on the Darkside.

<< <i> You'll love the crap colored toning and bag marks on this coin >>

I once worked for that same coin shop and heard a tale (possibly apocryphal) about smoebody bringing in a high-grade 1794 dollar, which they'd Tarn-X-ed and "shined up real good" before visiting the shop.

I personally watched this one go down, back when I worked there. He gets all kinds.

Looks to me like one seriously failed monster AT experiment that the perp failed to recognize as failed and ANACS failed to recognize as AT. Would have to see it in hand but I cannot fathom any other explanation. Sure you get sliders in high AU that shouldn't have been slabbed but the submitter missed a rub. Many of us (me included) have made that mistake at least once. This just wouldn't be one of them. The only thing remmotely close to this that I would go for is to try to make a PO1 or FA2 Sac $1.

Hard to say who "The Dumbest Person on Earth" is here. Himself? (for buying it and trying to make a profit on it on ebay?) The previous owner? (for slabbing it) or the next buyer? (For knowingly buying a coin that "The Dumbest Person on Earth" once owned and is only worth 25 cents.image

There is a home for everything. I think i may try a pocket change auction next week--just take the change right from my pocket and try to sell it on ebay-- Think it will sell??

It occurred to me a long time ago and I am sure occurred to a lot of other people, but has anyone actually tried to sell their soul on eBay or Craig's List?

I'm sure he was given the coin and didn't buy it, nor did he submit it. The "dumbest person" referred to in the auction is the one who slabbed it.

The funniest part of this auction is that FOUR,(so far) others are willing to pony up whatever it takes ($1.75 so far, plus shipping), to become the SECOND DUMBEST PERSON ON EARTH image

    Now that is funny image
This guy has a sense of humor and has to be the smartest guy in the world to get this coin from the dumbest image
  • BarryBarry Posts: 10,100 ✭✭✭
Sometimes ANACS runs specials, like slab 10 coins for X dollars and if you're short a "real" coin or two, you need to send in a "filler" coin to get the better rate. It's cheaper slabbing the 10 coins for the deal than 8 or 9 coins at the regular price. Perhaps that's why it's slabbed.

As the current owner (and thus second dumbest person on earth) of this coin. I thought I would tell what I know of the history of this coin.

Several months ago another dealer brought this coin into our shop with several other modern, low value slabs. Being the kind of person that I am, I could not resist buying such a funny object for fifty cents. I would have paid up to seventy-five cents if I had had to, but we don't want to let the other dealer know that, he named his price and I paid it. I showed it around a little and then tossed it into a box where it was forgotten. About a week ago I came across that box and found it again. I decided that if I could sell it for more than fifty cents I would drop from the second to third dumbest person on earth, thus making myself 33% smarter.image

It's strangely appealing in a whacky sort of way.

And... regarding the post of a PO01 or FA02 Sacagawea...
If you could 'rock tumble' one of those down and get ANACS or PCGS or NGC to holder it (ANACS with a no problem holder) I'd be a buyer at $250.00!
