I'm on the 66 boat. NICE ONE!!! Hey, I took your advice on scouring eBay for raw Buffs and it paid off on a 13T1. Thanks.....takes a LONG TIME to look through all those worn out ones though!

  • 66 is my opinion...but could ANACS be conservative on this one??? You have posted some Buffalo's that were undergraded recently...oh what the heck...I'll say ANACS 65 (just because you post awesome coins that are sometimes graded a point lower than they should be). image

In this case I broke a cardinal "rule" of collecting--I bought the holder, not the coin.

Whether the coin merits such a lofty grade is a bit beyond my high-intermediate level of expertise to determine. Certainly it is completely free of marks, is well struck up, lustrous to beat the band, etc. etc. But I couldn't help but jump at it, as PCGS lists only 75 in MS67, with only one finer. I understand that ANACS is not PCGS; but its pedigree as a TPG is darned solid, and from my experience they do a good job with Buffalo nickels.

PCGS retail for the coin is $1,400. I paid $367 for this example. At the very least, it's impossible for me to get seriously hurt, and I have to say, it's rather cool adding an MS67 Buffalo to my collection. That makes two for me; I also have the common 38-D in NGC MS67. It's just fun--I'm looking at it now, wondering, "Would it cross?" It's practically flawless in-hand.

If it were not for the faded tail tip... I would think it would cross... may still.. it is a very nice coin. Cheers, RickO

Thanks Rick--that's the sort of finer expertise I'm always secretely fishing for, and am grateful to hear. Where the heck else am I going to hear neat little bits of intelligence like that?

I'd grade it 66, but a higher end example. Theres a bit of strike weakness on the outer feather tip and there's a pretty good hit on the Buffalo's thigh.
