Buffalo nickel: A very nice find!

As David Lange notes, the 1914-S is a peculiar date. Coins with great strikes tend to have poor luster and indifferent surfaces, while those with proof-like surfaces tend to be poorly struck. It is difficult to find examples that offer a happy blend of the two. I stumbled upon this coin after keeping my eye out for quite a while; those who search for these know it can be a bit frustrating. So it's very difficult to do a lot better than this. My 1914-S is unquestionably well struck, and the luster is pretty darned good. Nice toning, too. It's in an ANACS holder.

You've cursed my thread, Claw. Nobody will even look at my coin now.
<< <i>I didn't look at the coin as I saw that Claw had posted here. Was it nice? >>
Yes. It was real shiny and purdy. And so expensive, we're having mac & cheese instead of turkey tomorrow.

<< <i>Geesh, it's just a common Buffalo nickel!
Indeed. At one time it was worth 5 cents. Not any more.

<< <i>Exquisite coin, Guy. This is one of the toughest issues, along with the '14-D, '15-D, '15-S, and '16-S. The ocin you present appears to have great color and detail, as well as good luster. A rare and nice combination for these early T2 pieces.

That's flattering Mark, thank you. Any time I see what you're seeing, I know I'm on the right track.
Buffnut, you nailed it--MS64. I'm so pleased with this coin, I for once don't yearn to have one in 65.
I am, incidentally, going to try to cross this particular coin, along with a few others I feel can cut the mustard.
