What is the absolute best way to polish scratches off my holders?

A lot of mine are in just awful shape. I read somewhere about using Brasso to buff away the scratches.
Anyone got a primer for me on what to use and how to use it? Or can you direct me to an earlier thread on the subject?
Thanks!
Guy

Hey Guy, thanks for the nice Buff! Any well stocked Automotive store will have this. It works great. Russ and Mark Feld should buy some too!

  • I use Novus #2. You just put a dab on and start polishing with a soft cloth. It will take a few minutes and your hand will get tired. NGC slabs don't seem to take as well to this treatment as PCGS slabs. In fact, I won't use it anymore on NGC slabs.

  • I have had excellent results from the Janvil plastic restore product. Some automotive shops carry it and I believe it also can be ordered by mail. More costly than similar products but worth it. I paid around $15 for a kit.

  • I've read, and my still limited experience seems to support it, that using a high-speed drill with a foam polishing bit in just one direction with llight pressure works really well and promotes good pictures as well, even on NGC holders. Rob

Try mine first. You already have this. Take a small piece of toilet paper and palce a small dab of toothpaste on it. Apply to the slab and polish. When it is dry, I use a little dab of water on the slab to reduce friction. Takes a very short time and looks like new! Sometimes if you have sparkles, etc in it, you can have small very faint polish swirls on the slab, bet they are very slight. Try it. Ray

Tried it. It works pretty well! And it now has that fresh, Ultra-Brite smile...

Only thing that works to my satisfaction is the reholder service. I reholder most all the coins I buy.image
