I bought the $10 and $50 single issues. If they were smart they would limit these. Maybe they now have a clue since the quick sell out of the AGE Annniversary set. I hope they get ignored by collectors. In the beginning they posted on their web site these would be minted based on demand, but later took this off.
I would consider the coin a sell out if it is only available in the 4 coin set..... That is well out of my reach and this really annoys me..... Why not the other fractionals too?
The coin is still way above it melt value so I can't imagine they are repricing it.....

These coins have a different reverse than the bullion coins. Do you think there will be a premium for them? The total mintage will be less than the last few years I suspect. I guess all the money went for gold this year.

Dont confuse the bullion "First Strike" coins with the Unc that just sold out. They are different coins. I dont think most people make that connection. You can still buy the bullion 1/10 oz coins from coin dealers. Check out the different reverses on these two coins, also the Unc version on sale (and partially sold out) at the Mint has a W mint mark, while the bullion coin does not. FYI, they are all made at West Point, even though the bullion coins do not reflect the W mint mark.

I saw your post as humor, but my point was to differentiate the coin sold by the Mint from the bullion coin. I suspect most folks do not know there are TWO different platinum unc designs for 2006.

With platinum running up and the Mint holding firm on its price - at least for now - the set is looking like a bargain. Unfortunately, that will lead to a higher mintage, which could turn a bargain into a loser. Oh, my, what to do, what to do? I just ordered 5 sets. Wish me luck!

NN report that as of 11/6 1417 single 1/10 Plats were sold and 842 4-Coin sets. That equals 2259.
Currently, the Mint reports that 6,000 regular bullion 1/10 plats have been sold, this would be the lowest ever if it holds. ( there is usually buying in Dec., so this will go up).
Depending how many coins were sold between 11/6 and the sellout, this, and the other Unc. "W" plats may be the lowest Plat Mintage ever, including the Proof.

Wouldn't a higher mintage also need to be paired with a higher price from the Mint? As I understand it, this would benefit those of us who locked in the current price. Increased mintage might lower the chances of a huge jump in resale prices, but how would it turn this set into a loser?

Platinum has been going higher based on blatant speculation. It has been going up and down. It is conceivable that these platinum sets will become much more common as many more orders go in because of the platinum price surge (mostly due to the possible platinum ETF) therby ruining the possible scarcity of these platinum sets then as soon as we receive all or platinum coins then the platinum prices could conceivably go back WAY DOWN, thereby creating non-winners and possibly even losers.

Great choice MrEureka. You show an adventurous spirit, and are willing to take chances.
For me, I see Platinum taking a big plunge back to unimaginable levels. But before this happens I see the Platinum Mint issues selling in record numbers - speculation is at a fever-pitch right now. The Mint is going to clean up!
But don't worry, I'll be buying these sets at 5% over Kitco's buy prices. But I'll only be wanting 1 set.
<< <i>With a mintage of below 3000 this coin has be a key if it is sold out..... >>
That being said, who knows HOW far into 2007 the mint will sell the 4-coin "w" plat set.
I believe they sold the 2005 1/4 plat proofs all the way until March of 2006. That's a long time. If they do something like that here, it remains up in the air what the final mintage will be. Could be higher. Could be a lot higher. A low mintage remains likely, but I think this is a wait and see...
If its not available, the mint will either stop making them or there will be a price increase for the $10. A hint from the mint that maybe they are done minting these. I think they are overwhelmed and have to start the 2007 mintages soon. Its anybody's guess, but I just added the $25 platinum today also.
I have to agree... very well could be the first "allotment" has been reached for the 1/10th ounce striking... so they now closed the option. Most likely will not mint more, due to the reasons given above and just plain low demand. I suspect the other options have had about the same number minted, and when those are sold... that may be it.
<< <i>I don't like it one bit your humor..... Wow.....it's a good thing I didn't actually try to be offensive or somethiing. John >>

Once these Coins get PCGS'ed and hit eBay you will see some really attractive prices. This will flood the US Mint's ordering centers and result in a really big mintage. Prices will drop to purely bullion levels, lots of inexperienced speculators will taste defeat for the first time. A flood of eBay sales will drop the selling prices to below bullion value for a while.
My prediction for mintages.
1 oz - 4,500
1/2 oz - 3,000
1/4 oz - 2,800
1/10 oz - 1,500 * US Mint seems to have cut off ordering early - probably to fuel the flames of this speculation driven market and force the other options
4 coin set - 13,500 * ordering goes wild due to hype around cut off of 1/10 oz option
I miss the semi reverse proof MS Platinums pre 2004. They looked etched, dynamic, and artistic to me. I am interested in the upcoming Reverse Proof Platinums. As far as the mintage, with the climbing price and greater interest in Mint Gold, it appears each new year has the potential to be "the lowest Mintage in Platinum" (with the apparent exception of the 2004 Proof Set, which I believe is still the King?).
<< <i>If truely sold out (with the exception of the 4 coin set, sorry way to expensive for me) this coin currently as a mintage of approximately 2500..... Not sure the total on the 1/10 2004 Proof, but higher then that I believe (I do have this coin)..... >>
Where are people getting mintage numbers? The coin hasn't shipped yet. The mint was taking orders until days ago and platinum had a huge run up so they probably got a barrage of orders. So if the mint did announce numbers they are dated. Are you sure you're not looking at numbers for the 2006 non-W eagles?

Hey Full strike....could ebay sales drop values to bulion prices for other coins such as Buffalos in your opinion??

It is NOT sold out!
Too many 1/10 oz were ordered compared to the bigger pieces.
If sold out that sucks really bad.....
Going to have to call there tomarrow I guess.....
However, if you want the 1/10 oz coin, you have to order the 4 pc set.

The coin is still way above it melt value so I can't imagine they are repricing it.....
<< <i>I thought the Mint web site stated that the ann eagles would be unlimited except for the Reverse Proof in all metals. >>
That's what I thought.
Was planning on getting one of these
I can let them go for 5K each.

These and the 1 oz are the two most collected I would say.....

That 4 coin set is out of consideration for most collections as well.....

True. That being said, this isn't a sell-out yet.
Consider that quite a few 4 coin sets have been sold (842) relative to the tenths (1417).

of course I could be wrong
