No more images from Old School

First, let me apologize. I wasn't aware that my posting of the images each week was spamming. Since not a single person ever bids on the photos, I figured I was just getting an opportunity to share the images and show them off and talk about what I'm into with sports enthusiasts. Generally, things were great. The same guys would chime in about how much they liked certain images. Some would ask where I get them...very innocent stuff...and fun.

The last two weeks, however, I have met a complete moron and dung-heap (33 goudey) and was informed by a respected writer on here, pandrews, that I was basically a loony and my spam isn't apprecated and I should go away. I have to admit my feelings were hurt a little by that one--not easy to do, by the way--and I think he's right. Spam has no place. Even when sharing the truly remarkable and rare, it's the threads about grading specials, fast turnarounds, and eBay shipping charges that people want.

Please email me at oldschool.images@yahoo.com if you ever have any questions or would like to see "what's new" at Old School.
Thanks for putting up with my annoying spam posts. It wasn't intentional.
I'm just glad that pandrews and a hard-nosed guy named Grote-15 showed me the error of my ways. I apologize especially to them. Great guys.

  • I suppose that it was "technically" spamming. But I, for one, loved the ballpark images from the days in which I grew up. I never felt that I was compelled to purchase anything.

I think you will find that there are a lot of people on here who enjoyed those posts and did not find them to be useless clutter like we normally associate with spam. Instead you were sharing a passion of yours and we got to benefit by being transported back in time to what many of us probably consider the "good old days"

I have learned that no matter what you say or do there are always those with a dissenting opinion. I guess it is what makes the world go around.

I never thought that sharing photos was spam. I would look at the threads to see what was up. I never comment, but I like looking at photography.

It was a little bit of both sharing and spamming....we can't deny that. But, it's not one of those blatent "go buy my stuff" posts or threads that are on here so often. I, for one, am not annoyed by your 'sharing' of these pictures. I hope that you share with us (even if it's on the Buy, Sell, Trade board) any and all future images!

The photos were great. Keep posting them. As far as anyone who doesn't want to look at them, don't look. I am always confused about why people are bothered by spam that they are not obligated to look at, but to each his own.

  • Thanks guys. Please email me for new pics, etc. If you would like, just give me your address and I'll get you newsletters when they come out. Your support is appreciated and thanks for all of the good conversation regarding things besides shipping charges, monthly specials, certain eBay sellers, and polls about whether or not Ronald McDonald belongs in the HOF.

As for spam, it never crossed my mind. You can think what you will--it seems people who have never met me have made some pretty strong assertions, but using dgf & oldschool is a way of the regular people who enjoy the photos recognizing the thread content--nothing more. To suggest it is ego fulfillment is silly. I am not actually named "frazier".
I sincerely thought--(I was wrong or pre-mature), that I would spark interest NOT in purchasing the photos, but in how collectible the actual FILM is. I stopped collecting baseball cards for the most part and moved into the next natural stage of collecting for me which is original images. In cards, I always like the image the best. Corners, centering, etc. are always nice, but it has always been about the content and quality of the actual picture on the card for me, personally. Original images are TRUE 1 of 1's and I like how special it is looking at a crisp, colorful photo of a player that the player himself has never seen--or anybody besides the photographer for that matter. It's just a cool thing.

<< <i>No offense, dude, but you seem really starved for positive affirmation. >>

If by "positive affirmation" you are referring to a blow job, you are correct. Besides that, I'm O.K. for now.

<< <i>Christ DGF could never get the links to work right >>

You got that right! That's hilarious. I feel like my Dad with his VCR. I just can't link up sometimes. Someone helped me out last time. I was, apparently, signed in and on a page that won't work as a link. Thank God for Jordan! He has actually been helping me spam and he, too, should be put in his place by pandrews.

Somewhere in the middle is the truth - that's life.

But your generalization is not fair with respect to Pandrews - quite over the top IMO. He's nobody's dummy and has a pretty clear view on the issues that happen on this forum.

Frankly, I was surprised that dgf took the time to write that long post where he essentially made himself out to be almost a martyr. It seemed to be a bit self-serving, IMO. My posts on that Carter thread were mainly in reference to the usefulness (or lack thereof) of reserve auctions, the PSA 10 84 Donruss Carter RC that ended without a winning bidder and Paypal. Next thing I know I'm being called an old fart, lol!

If you are talking about his assertion of Phil's mental status? That, like Phil's posts, was taken by myself as an example of his irony.

I won't get into characterizations about Pandrews or DGF - I don't DGF well enough.

DGF, from what I understand, is one of the best at spotting high quality cards and has now branched out.
He has, I believe, very passionate feelings about collecting - I respect his POV.

I think they can handle this without any of us resorting to name calling.

True enough, but what fun would the Internet be without prejorative characterizations? Look at the sports talk forum-- you can't go 5 posts in there without someone calling someone else a 'dope'.

Anyway, I agree with what Phil said about reserve auctions. They're for weenies. And I don't think it's one in ten that ends up garnering a higher hammer price-- by virtue of some 'bidding frenzy'-- then you would get by just starting the min. bid at the lowest price you'll take for the card.
  • Stone, it's obvious this guy is your friend and I must be wrong getting a little angered by referred to the way he characterized my comments. The 'dumbass' reference was for any idiot who decides to take cheap shots without provocation, if pandrews felt he was the one then so be it. There have been any number of people I have seen here over the years do the same thing over and over - nothing but cheap shots and petty arguments and they do eventually calm down or go away. I stand corrected pandrews is a saint and I must be wrong, my sincerest apologies for mischaracterizing your friend. Even if this whole embroglio spilled over from another thread or topic it makes no difference, I am grateful for the great photo's and if you don't want to see them then don't click his threads that obviously state he has pictures he has repaired and is selling.

I was not looking for apologies - to be honest.

I was just stating it would be nice to keep this a clean argument - and Boo is correct - the sports talk can get a bit dicey.

But, to be frank - this is a different forum.

You're a good guy and altho I am defending Pandrews - I'm pretty sure he would be the first to say - he's no saint. And has, like all of us, said stuff that would better be left off the table.

I agree - I would like Phil to continue posting his pics.

I believe that Arny said it best - the pics were a combination of pride and spam to a degree - whether intended or not.

But, DGF is a friend here - and a little spam amongst friends is a good thing.

  • Wow, must be close to election day with all this hot air. I read through the Carter thread and this thread and since I suffered through both I earned my two cents. DGF had some valid points about reserve auctions. Since I tend to be a little sarcastic myself I could easily read through his sarcasm to see the points he was making (which I generally agree with). The main problem when using sarcasm is there will always be some, and perhaps many, who will not clearly understand what is being stated. This can lead to feeling offended or feeling the author is off his rocker. This in turn can quickly lead to a heated argument as we have seen first hand. I'll have to go back and see who started the namecalling and innuendo but that isn't really important. If one thinks dgf is at a lower level then why stoop down to that level? I'm not saying you shouldn't defend yourself. I'm simply saying you are probably intelligent enough to do so in a manner without exhanging names and insults which serve little more than to clutter an otherwise excellent forum. As far as the photos, they were spam in the sense of advertising an auction. Since the majority of folks who commented here approve of the images then the posting of photos isn't spam in the classic sense: unwanted solicitation. I think of the photos almost like another "mail day" thread but If the photos make a revival it's probably best there not be any mention or linking of current or future personal auctions. I would think that would end the debate.

Two cents is now cashed out.
