Name some of your personal card collecting projects that no one else is probably doing.
What I mean by that is, don't include projects like say, building a vintage Topps set or a 1993 Finest Refractor set or anything that nearly everyone would do given sufficent funds.
For example, my main collecting project right now is building 1992-95 Fleer & Ultra master sets because I think they had by far the most interesting non-parallel insert sets (especially 1994). As for parallel insert sets, I'd love to get the 1992-94 Topps Gold/Black Gold sets and the 1994 Score Gold Rush set (that is by far the most beautiful parallel insert set I've ever seen that's within my price range) and maybe the 1996 Fleer Tiffany set (because IMO, the regular 1996 Fleer set is borrrrring design wise). I guess I'm doing these because I have fond memories of buying packs of all these and hoping to get a really good single of the above mentioned sets; now I can try to collect them all.
Now, these are probably a lot more popular so these might not count, but I'm also trying to get all the Finest sets up to 1995 and possibly the Diamond Kings sets up to at least 1995.
See how the topic works? While I personally love the mid-1990s Fleer/Ultra inserts, the demand is next to nothing, and to a lesser extent the other sets I mentioned. But at least that works to your advantage if you're buying rather than selling, since you can get these for literally pennies on the dollar.
So what are your personal collecting projects that no one else has probably even thought of doing? I hope all of you understand where I want to go with this discussion.

<< <i>Team Set of 1955 dodger's autographs on 1955 topps cards >>
Wow, is that even possible? I actually remember a Beckett article years ago where someone was trying to do a complete autographed early to mid 1980s Donruss set. Again, I just don't see how either would even be possible. But if you did manage to complete it, isn't there a sense of pride knowing how hard is was to build it, just like I can imagine how hard it would be to build those Fleer/Ultra master sets if you had to do it the old fashioned way (busting open cartons and cases of packs)?

Which card in particular? When you do complete it, could you please do as high resoultion of a scan as you can all ten cards side by side, both front and backs? I for one would love to see this for myself.

My registry sets
( I know that was not the point of this thread)...
1955 Bowman Raw complete with 90% Ex-NR or better
Now seeking 1949 Eureka Sportstamps...NM condition
Working on '78 Autographed set now 99.9% complete -
Working on '89 Topps autoed set now complete
I am doing the same thing and bringing a card to Shriner's tomorrow that I pulled in the summer of '65 out of a 1965 pack... hoping that it will grade a 1, then I'll only need a 2 and a 10 for the run! Card # is 55 from that year, and it happens to be my all-time favorite card as well.
Great thread!
(1) To satisfy my desire for PSA 10 cards, I am collecting PSA 10 cards of Michigan State Spartan Alumni in the 4 major sports.
(2) I have identified the 100 greatest Detroit Tigers of all-time (in my opinion), 10 at each position (including 30 outfielders) and 20 pitchers. I am attempting to collect a PSA graded card of each player, from the era that they played.
At some point when I have the time, I'm going to add these sets to the Collector's Showcase, with a scan of each card.
<< <i>Mosi Tatupu Master set. Unfortunately I only have 1 card so far and I need 5 to get PSA to put that in the registry.
Arthur >>
Better pick up the other 4 soon Arthur, since once you do it will take another year for PSA to get it added to the registry. I still have player requests I put in 8 months ago waiting to go through
Aside from my mainstream collecting, which wouldnt serve the purpose of this thread to mention, I am slowly gathering rookie cards of all the members of the Yankees world series teams of 1996 & 1998-2000.

What a great thread. I particularly like the idea for the Favre TD receivers.
(I need a corrected 1991 Pacific Bubba Paris and an error 1989 Upper Deck Mike Gallego.)
<< <i>What a great thread. I particularly like the idea for the Favre TD receivers. >>
The only downside is that it wont appear on the Set Regisrty list anytime soon. They will not start sets that dont have defined cards.
Soon my set will be on the collectors showcase site. Right now I only need 16 of the 42 to be complete.

81, 83 Donruss
81, 82, 83 Fleer
84 Fleer Update (will probably forget about it, too pricy)
88 - 90 Score Young Superstars (rack inserts)
92 Bowman
I also was working on the same for Football... 1981 - 1990 (minus ActionPacked). So far, only things left are...
1984 Topps rack inserts
1985 Topps rack inserts
1990 Score Traded
Fun stuff!

Most are either Jim Beam or Ezra Brooks - I believe I have around 20. Unfortunately the last one came in DOA from the PO.

I'm also slowly (very slowly) working on some other random sets that don't get much action:
68-69 San Diego Rockets (basketball), raw or PSA
2001 Upper Deck Golf PSA 10
Tony Gwynn oddballs, pre 1990
Not easy to find a Luis Sojo certified auto. I may need to start going the TTM route.
The other project I'm working on is a PSA graded card from their playing days for each of the Yankees whose number has been retired.

great story, and I've always loved the 81 fleer set too...one of the first sets I really remember putting together, plus that glossy finish and cardstock seemed so different from the topps.
I trying to get every Conlon Collection card.
It is harder than it would seem.

If anyone ever has the chance, check out the pictures on the backs of 1990 Upper Deck, there are really great shots back there.
I don't care about too much after he retired.
I'm also attempting to do the same with Bob Gibson, and maybe later Ozzie Smith.
I finally got a Transogram box a couple weeks ago.
Collecting Tony Perez PSA and Rookie Baseball PSA
I'm sure I'm not the only one doing this, but I don't get to share it much. I am working on every St Louis Cardinals team set from 1948 to present. I started out by just wanting every Topps team set. I started in 2002. I got that finished in approximately 2 to 3 years. After I finished that, I went to vintage Bowman and got that completed. Then, I went to all Fleer, Donruss, Upper Deck, Score , and Topps and Bowman Heritage, and got that completed. Somewhere in there I started vintage inserts, oddball, and test issues. I have many of those like the 1951 Topps Team, 1955 Double Headers, 1961 Topps Magic Ruboffs, 1965 Transfers, 1966 Topps Ruboffs, 1963 Peeloffs, all Topps Stamps, 1969 Topps Team Posters, 1967 Pinups 1968 Pinups, 1970 Posters, 1972 Posters, Felt Emblems, 1969-71 Supers, 1962 Topps Bucks, 1964 Topps Giants, 1964 Topps Standups, 1965 Topps Embossed, 1969 Deckle Edge, 1969 Topps Decals, 1970 Topps Storybooklets, 1973 Topps Candy Lids, 1977 Topps Cloth, 1979 Comics, 1975 Topps Minis, 1964 and 1971 Topps Coins, 1961-61 Post, 1952 Berk Ross, 1970-83 Kelloggs, among others.
Now, I am working on modern Bowman, 1963 Jello (need only Julio Gotay) 1962 Jello, 1971 Topps Greatest Moments (need Brock and Cepeda), and any other rare Topps test issues that I can find. I know that I will NEVER own many of the truly rare test issues, but I still find it enjoyable and a challenge.
Just a side note: I am even including in my team sets EVERY card that features a Cardinals player (i.e - League Leaders, All Stars, multi player Rookies, subsets, etc). That is why I am including the 1971 Topps Greates Moments Cepeda. He is on the Braves in 1971, but the "greatest moment" features him as a Cardinal in the black and white picture.
I don't have any PSA cards in my team set collection. They are all raw and in albums and in order by card and by year.
If anybody has any test issues or oddball Cardinals that I haven't listed, feel free to let me know. SFMAYS24 sent me a real nice scan of a 1967 Topps Punchouts with Cepeda. It was a beauty. The panel was still intact and still in the cellophane wrapper. I have never even laid eyes on a common card, much less a rarity like that. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford that one. I am realizing that there are some that I will never, ever see, much less own (ie 1968 Topps 3D Curt Flood). But hey, I still enjoy it!

<< <i>I am working on a PSA 10 1981 Fleer Set. I am only getting started (have 13 so far). I know this is not the most popular set. BUT I am doing this because this is the set that got me into card collecting. >>
Those are both really attractive sets that I have a great fondness for.
One of the side effects of buying '67's is that most of the people mentioned in Ball Four are in that set. There are exceptions (like Bob Watson, who doesn't debut until a couple of years later), and I'm not working hard on that subset, per se, but it's in my mind as an eventual goal.
