I just bought/sold...
Tell us about a coin you bought or sold IN THE PAST WEEK and why you did it.
I'd like to see this thread last forever. It would be interesting to see how people are thinking, especially as the markets change.

I've had a busy week, mostly selling, but I'll talk about two related transactions in particular.
I sold a Stone Mountain commem in raw XF45 and bought one in NGC 64. I did this because this massive upgrade in quality can be achieved for only about thirty bucks. Given the tiny price increments from circ all the way to 64, I finally concluded it makes no sense to own a Stone Mountain half in any condition below near-gem unless the particular coin is unusually eye appealing and wonderful. The outgoing coin was nice, but it was not earth shaking. I have not received the new one yet; we'll see what we think when it gets here. Whether or not this particular coin lights my fire, I'll stand by my logic.
Why did I buy it? It was in my dealers stock of coins and I didn't have one till then. Oh, and the mintage is only 43,000 and is listed for $30 or so
I haven't bought many coins in the past month because of my Cross-Country and school schedule, but cross-country ended this weekend and I plan on being more active this next month or so.
I purchased the 1842-C LD $5 for my Charlotte half eagle XF/AU date set this past week. I purchased it from Heritage because it was extremely original and crusty. I was able to view the coin in person in St. Louis, and it was among my favorite coins in the sale, having the "black-and-gold" look that I seek.

My plan is to buy a s**t load of more common, slabbed gem 20th century silver issues. I'm going to continue buying all the way down as prices continue to fall. I have some other stuff in the works, but I'm not wanting to tip anyone off just quite yet.
Looking for alot of crap.
The '76-CC DDO 10c. will reside in my Centennial type set along side a PCGS-65 DDR (Breen 3397) 10c.

I hate selling the 27-D, but I'll eventually find another suitable one (I hope). The other three that are being sold are duplicates.
and it replaces the lower grade coin that was in my set.
Bought a collection a few weeks ago,1880CC gsa,1881cc gsa,1885CC gsa,10 1OZ kRADS,15 silver dollars and some junk.
Why did I buy it? It was priced right.(I'm not a dealer)
Plan on sending in the 1881 for grading.
Also bought an 1938s/s Licoln in MS64 just for the heck of it.
Sold the 1885 to a co-worker.
I'm trying to amass some cash for the ThanksGiving week end show in Dearborn,Mich (MSNS show).

The 1 is doubled at the top on the left side of the base, and the 4 is tripled on the top of the right side of the base.
I have seen only one other, which I have recorded as being here on Collectors Universe on 20 July 2005.
I don't know what the thread consisted of at this time.
I also bought an 1843 Valentine-6a Half Dime at the Muskegon Coin Club coin show yesterday. There wasn't much of any Seated stuff at the show, and this was the only thing of what little there was that was worth buying. It's just VG, but I didn't have one of these.
This is the repunched date, and is listed in the new Cherrypickers book.

I also bought a set of 06 p & d Lincoln business strikes in 67 from Clakamas, mainly because I wanted to compare them to my SF's, and secondly for insurance in case PCGS decides to make a change to the registry and move the SF coins out of the regular set!!!
Unfortunately I struck out this week. Did visit my local dealer yesterday and was fondling a MS65 Saint and a few other nice looking gold coins that I probably could have bought. But the store was so busy I just got tired of being there and bagged it. Maybe next time.

Andy:
What have YOU bought/sold in the last week?
Why: Because I wanted a graded UNC Merc, sellers description caught my attention.
Positive BST: WhiteThunder (x2), Ajaan, onefasttalon, mirabela, Wizard1, cucamongacoin, mccardguy1
Negative BST: NONE!
I bought and almost immediately resold quite a few things as a dealer. My only motive was capturing a buy/sell spread.
As for my collecting, I haven't bought or sold anything in months. However, I have high hopes to report some purchases in about one month when I return from my next overseas buying trip!

Sold: 1866 5c because a fellow collector needed a nice example for his type set.
Sold a number there tonight too. A couple were practically stolen from my consignment, but I made a little bit overall anyway.

A nice PCGS 64 VAM-5 from Teletrade tonight.
Also on Teletrade, I got a 1926-S VAM-4 (PCGS 62), an 1896 VAM-20 (NGC 64DPL), a 1900 VAM-16 (PCGS 63, attributed) and an 1882-O VAM-17A (ICG 64, to add to my hoard of them). On eBay, I picked up a 1901 VAM-5 in XF, 1880 VAM-23 in F/VF, and a bunch of others.
Oh, and on TT I sold an 1885-CC VAM-4 PCGS 65 and a bunch of other VAMs. (I am sure I have the highest quality hoard of that VAM.) A 1934-D PCGS 64 Peace dollar was ripped from me at a $450 bid. It is a really nice one too. My 1927 (ANACS 65) didn't sell even though my reserve was below what I paid for it. It is a solid 65 but everyone figures it must have tried to cross. Perhaps I should have. If I buy it back after two more shots there, I will. One I didn't mean to consign, fortunately didn't sell. So I will just set outrageous buybacks on it in the next couple appearances and get the coin back.

I bought this one because I wanted a nice example of the Steel Cent:
I bought this one because I liked the obverse and felt that I'd take a stab at my "raw grading" abilities:
