My first complete Dansco

image

Albeit an easy one. The hard part was not spending too much on these coins. Filling the album was not as easy and as cheap as you might think. I was pretty patient and even got a couple freebies from some folks right here on this board. You can get the coins all day long on ebay or buy uncirc sets but it's usually overpriced. I shopped and shopped and shopped until I found fair prices for everything. You can easily spend 2 to 3x too much if you get in a hurry.

None of the coins in the Dansco are special or crackouts. My only criteria was that they had to be in the mint cellophane. I just wanted to know I was the first guy who had touched them so I had some idea as to condition. I didn't get the album with the proofs because as you can see I already have a set of graded proofs and I have all the annual Silver Mint Proof sets as well.

Anyway, it was fun. My daughter is excited about it which is what it's really all about and it's the first book we've managed to fill.

  • Congrats John for you and your daughter. I finished my first about a year ago and every once in awhile I go back to look it over and still get the same feeling as the day I finished it.

    Looks like a great set.

I am selling all of my expensive coins so I can start doing fun stuff like this.

So do you have the Dansco Albums for all of the other types of coins that came in your Uncirculated sets?

Not sure how they will look but I am actually looking forward to starting my first Dansco with the Presidential dollars. I know a lot of people who have knocked them but since they will come no matter what, might as well try collecting something from the begging.
  • BECOKA,

I agree with you on starting from the beginning with the Pres dollars. I think they'll be a remarkable circulation flop. I'm also going to try to swing the First Lady coins. At the end of the day I think a full set will be worth something, and starting at the beginning like this prevents me from having to have any graded coins. I'll opt for mint only coins in original holders.

I like plastic, and I don't like plastic, if that makes any sense at all.

Nice! I don't like putting proofs in albums so I skiped them. I like what you did by having certified proofs to go with the album. Great idea and a cool set.

Another really fun album you could do with your daughter is circulated Jefferson Nickels. By getting rolls a the bank you should eventually be able to almost fill it. Then to make it really fun for your daughter plant the few tough ones in some rolls so she can have the thrill of finding the keys.

hey...that's nice! Nice looking set of raw Sackies and the proofs are very affordable in that grade...the 2001-S may be the exception to that set.
