Do you think it will grade/upgrade...your opinions on an indian cent...lets see how good you are!

hint ..... its in a slab now.
hint ..... the spot above the date is just that...a dark area in the metal...not a hit!

do you think it will go in a PCGS holder?

what grade do you think it is right now........ in the plastic its in?

do you think it will go down...up...or stay the same grade it is?

*note* the milky white blurs are scratchs on the holder.

the color is fairly accurate....but the whole photo shoot was done in haste ....just couldn't wait to share!image

Tough to tell if it would upgrade if we don't know what it is now.

But I don't think that PCGS would grade it because of the hairlines, and something seems wrong with its color (too bright for something that seems to have wear).

Just MHO and I'm certainly not an IHC guy, and, for the record, I hope I'm wrong. Respectfully...Mike

it must grade in a 20 point range i,m guessing.
    from a 45 to a 65.
grading is sooo subjective it could be any grade

Bet you a beer (if your not a YN - image) that it will come back 64R.

ms64, and yes might make ms65 hard to guess from the image though.

I think some of you might be seeing die polish (as opposed to hairlines or whizzing) on the coin. The piece looks mellowed enough to be called RB instead of RD, but I'm guessing that is the result of the imaging, so I will guess MS64RD for the grade. My second guess would be MS63.

I'm seeing it a little differently than Mark-- I see a 63RD and might go 64RD on a sunny bright spring day.

I'll bet it's accurately graded now at MS64RB.

Amanda, your image is one of the nastiest IHCs I've ever seen. The other one I traded to Tom Killian in an "ugly coin exchange."

Re the 09S, I find the reverse to be much more attractive than its obverse. I'd agree with Mark re the die polish lines on the reverse. The coin's obverse just doesn't excite me, though. The part of the coin on the viewer's lt. seems either too bright or washed out. The rt. side is noticeably darker, and personally, I don't care for this contrast.

It's die polish lines or an improperly mixed allow planchet. I think the coin is probably original and looks to be a 63RB.

  • I don't like the "lines." Die polish usually is found in the fields where the highest point of the die would be. I see lines on the indian's face, which would be in the lowest area of the striking die/ the highest point of the coin. Without seeing the coin in hand, I would pass.

  • Not sure what yours will grade but this one was in a MS-63RD PCGS slab before I cracked it out for my Dansco 7070 album

I think it will either go 64RB at PCGS or bag, Currently if it's an ANACS cache I would say 63RB or Unc details, If it's in a NGC/ICG cache I would say 64R. PCI or SEGS 65R.

If coins surface looks more original then pics indicate I would say 64RB.

I like this coin, relatively good strike, the two distractions points are kinda concealed.

Here is a 64B for comparison, though my pictures are not very good.

The far away photo shows the luster much better. I originally guessed 63RB, but with the additional photo showing the luster, I have no problem seeing that in a 64RB holder. As far as an upgrade.........I think it's pretty acurately graded.

Outstanding coin! Nearly full red and nearly a gem! Most 1909-S's come rather straw colored with woodgrain colorations. Perhaps the light woodgrain is the only reason they didn't give it a 64RD.

Only one problem... it's missing a EE Photoseal sticker! image
