US Mint is run by Idiots

Start of Rant.

A-r-r-r-g-h-h-h!

I am just so incensed I could spit!!!!!!

I place my ASE order on August 30th at 10:38 ET.

My credit card was set to expire on 9/2006

I updated my online credit card information in September.

ASE sets started shipping on 10/12

My order was In Stock and Reserved since the 12th

I called CS

CS told me that the expt date on the credit card stuck with the order regardless of whether or not it was updated online so I would have to cancel and reorder my ASE for a 12/8 delivery.

Note to self and others: Don't ever order anything from the mint that is set for delivery after your card expires!

Question to Self: Why in the heck doesn't my account update when I update my card?

End of Rant.

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

Last year I had a similar situation. About a week after I placed on order, low and behold a new set of cards showed up in the mail. I called the Mint's customer service, and they changed the card information for me. No problem!

this is clearly explained on the mint website. Updating your credit card info doesn't affect previosly placed orders or else you wouldn't be able to place orders on multiple cards. I was able to change update my credit card info talking to reps without problem.

One of my AGE charge got rejected several times because my credit card company saw it as "unusual". The reps worked with me and ran it again and eventually changed cards and got it through.

You haven't provided any info to support the claim in the subject line of this thread.

    Baloney!

My card was updated in my account on 9/5. Why in the heck did that not take affect on an order that had not even started shipping? They do not bill until the order gets shipped. The card expt date was upto date for my account when they went to bill.

The rep I spoke with did not offer to update the card for the specific order. He said I had to cancel and reorder.

If you have not already cancelled ask to talk to a Manager. I think they can change the card on your order.

But it is stated on the web site that an update to your 'account' doesn't change anything on orders already placed.

The silver lining in this is that maybe the spotting problem will be corrected by the time the December orders ship.

My main complaint is that my San Francisco mint commemorative $5 gold coin arrived with the capsule open and the coin wondering around in the box. image The coin was undamaged image, but from what I've read here, this seems to be a consistent problem.

What is it with the mint or the "fulfillment center?" For years they have shipped me coins that were in boxes and capsules in which the capsule was in place and the coin secure. Now the coin arrives lose leaving the very real possilbility that it will be damaged on shipment.

Yes the mint is run by people who don't have a clue about customer service.

    Here's an update.

Updating your credit card online does not update the Mints Records for orders placed before the card expires.

All orders must be phoned in to the CS line.

Interesting and frustrating system they have in that the card does not get updated even though the order has not been placed.

Because when they bill, they bill to the information that was recorded with the order not the info currently on your account. Not too surprising.

Well, in my opinion that's just plain stupid!

Especially since they were taking orders for a product that wasn't supposed to be available until 12/8 (which is where I currently am at!)

Same thing with those silly burnished versions! Unavailable until Novemnber something or other!

It seems to me that they'd do a little updating especially on the update your account page! Like a note indicating that even though you have updated your credit card information you still need to call to have past orders updated!

    A-r-r-r-g-g-h-h-h!

    Did I already scream?

If anybody hates interacting with the U.S. Mint so much then they should consider purchasing their Mint-originated products from a dealer instead.

Here is my rant for the day.

My Unc SF Gold Commem appears to have shipped on 10/19, I have an email and the mint website show the same.
I check the Fed Ex shipping information, there is an empty page, no information about what has happened in the last 5 days.

I call the mint, I get mrs. moron on the phone. Tell her what is happening, she asks for my order number, I give it to her
she looks at the order and proclaims, well, there is no information. <DUH! That's what I told her, that's why I called!>

I asked if that's a bad thing, her reply, "Well, you never know!"
Then she says "watch it and call back in 2 days". I ask what they will do different in two days. She says, "nothing, we have to wait 30 days to process a lost order claim". - <So why should I call back in 2 days?>

Then she asks if there is anything else that she can help me with, I told her she hasn't helped me with anything yet! - Not really, but I wanted to.,
