Their may be a third specimen. I received this email from Coin World today:
<< <i>An Ohio collector reading the June 20 Coin World's coverage of the consignment of one of two known Proof 1975-S Roosevelt, No S dimes, decided it was time to briefly bring his example out of hiding.
The anonymous collector purchased his set containing the error dime in 1978, shortly after ANACS authenticated the coin, and has kept it from public view ever since. He met with the Coin World staff in June 2011 to share with them documentation confirming his purchase of the set, to relate how an early mail delivery in 1978 enabled him to beat another customer by a few minutes in buying the coin, and, finally, to show off the set.

Oops, this could mean even more are out there. Would this affect the sell price of the August sale? Up or Down? Jim

No. The Ohio Specimen so mentioned is the Discovery Specimen. The owner saw the story about the one coming up at auction, and brought the Discovery Specimen to Sidney, O. along with documentation to prove that he had the discovery specimen. It is NOT a third specimen.

Nice progress. I wonder where it ranks now at $516,000.
This Proof 1975-S Roosevelt, No S dime, one of two pieces known, realized $349,600 during Stack’s Bowers Galleries’ Aug. 18 Rarities Night auction in Rosemont, Ill., placing it in the 11th spot for prices among all dimes
