Any good coin shops in Denver?

Preferably in the Parker/Aurora area.

Thanks!

  • While there are a number of coin shops in greater Denver, your qualifier of "good" forces me to respond "No!". Good luck.

I would say NO! I can rant and rave about how bad the various ones are; some are just mediocre. Most are there only for "the buy/rip". Be VERY careful.

    Colorado Springs...YES....Tom Hallenbeck.

I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

  • I live in Denver and work in Aurora. I know of one shop in Aurora but don't recomend it. He deals in various collectables and is, in my opinion, over priced is just plain unfriendly. I get my coin fix at the various shows, big and small, that occur throughout the year. There is a small, but nice show that recurrs about every 3-4 months held at the Aurora Library. It was held just last week. I always get a reminder of this show by my favorite dealer, Grassmick Coins. He is based in rural Colorado down south somewhere. Here is his contact information. If you happen to find a good shop in the area, let me know.

  • Hi there are a few shops on the south side of town, I would think it depends on what you want to collect or are looking for before I could give you the best advise. I have been to Colorado coin off Arapahoe road he generally will take the time to ask what I am looking for and is willing to go to his back stock to see if there is anything that interests me there. This store mainly deals in slabbed gold. Across the street is a smaller store of Rocky mountain coins sometimes they are a bit curt claiming since they just opened they have no good inventory they have been more than willing to order in danscos for me when needed. Further west off of Littleton Blvd is Arapahoe coin and stamp the store was purchased a couple of years ago by a gentleman more interested in stamps than coins so it got cherry picked pretty good now he is coin shy and abit over priced. Heading north now you can go to Colfax coin a smaller store about half filled with jewelry sometimes a good deal most times not. Rocky mountains main store on Broadway seems sometimes like you dont exist whether you wish to spend large $$ or small $$ hard to get service. Tebos in Boulder has a good selection of coins and will look for you in the back stock sometimes pricey sometimes not again depends on your collecting area. Hope this helps you out somewhat.
  • Thank you all for your input....I hope to do a little driving this weekend and check the sites out. I won't be able to make the thursday meeting though....sounds like fun.

  • I also live in Aurora and there is a coin store off I-225 and Mississippi, (East 1 block, then South 2 blocks on Abilene). A little expensive and customer service is lacking, but they do have a decent inventory. I, too would highly recommend Rocky Mountain Coin on Broadway, the store on Arapahoe road you need an appointment to see their inventory. Another person recommended Grassmick coins from Rocky Ford Colorado, which is I think East of Colorado Springs. Very friendly and nice to deal with.

  • << <i>Jeez! Tough crowd!

I like Rocky Mountain Coin on Broadway because Klaus stands behind his coins. I once purchased a 28-S for 62 money which came back from PCGS as a MS60. Klaus cheerfully refunded every nickel. Irma is a delight to shop with and the whole staff is never grouchy or to busy to help.

Tebo Coins in Boulder has a good selection of all different types of coins and bullion. They are a bit pricy but their grading is right on. Both Caryl and Daryl will work with you on pretty much anything you want. Chad and David are also very collector oriented. I spend a lot of time up there just shooting the breeze.

Those two are pretty much the big hittters in the Denver Area. There are numerous small shops around and I would suggest that you devote a couple of weekends and spend some time at each of them.

Once you get through with Denver, head down to Colorado Springs and by all means spend some time at Hallenbeck Galleries. Very nice shop and very friendly no BS business atmosphere.

There are some shops in Fort Collins, Longmont and Greeley as well but since they don't carry IKE dollars, I've had no real reason to visit them.

BTW, if you get a chance, the Northside Coin Club will be having a meeting this Thursday evening in Broomfield. You oughta stop by and say hello! I'll PM you with the address. >>

my father in law is a long-time Denver resident and his favorite is the Klaus & Irma shop called Rocky Mountain Coins. He also visits Colfax coins and every now and then finds something worthwhile there -- but Rocky Mtn has something for him every time he visits.
