UPDATE ON THIS:

The seller and our ESTEEMED colleague has added the two missing card to the auction so he is NOW selling a complete set.....Who Da Thunk??

Some interesting points to ponder:

1.The reserve has now been met for the auction $4750...with 5 days to go he should do well.....

2. Seller revised the auction by adding $10 S/H charge to an almost $5000 item. Whats up with that?

3. Not that he has to.......but I find it odd that Mr FarveFan has not commented on this thread.......

I don't. The unfair and unwarranted attacks on him are reason enough. Really don't understand some of the sarcasm and negativity here, especially in that last post from lostdart. Sounds like sour grapes to me.

Agreed. This thread has put a pretty big dent in the image of this board as a group of colleagues looking out for each other.

Sour grapes on my part???.......hell no !!!......I hope he sells the set for $20,000....I wished him the best in my first post here on this thread..........( or maybe second post.)

......Bottom line: this thread will get lots of exposure for the auction......

Thanks for the encouragement from most of you. For those who thought I was trying to be

untruthful you are 100% wrong. I did make a mistake in the title, it never should have said

ALL GRADED. I did not want to cancel bids because it already had a few bids of different

people and I need the $$ sooner than later. I fully expected my reserve to be met ($4750)

since I described the auction fully. I also spent way too much time scanning, but it paid

off. I got almost $750 over the reserve. As for the $10 more for shipping I agree, that

was petty so I did not charge it to the winner.

Now for the reason I need the cash. Most of you on the board know I am a Lymphoma survivor

of 38 months now. It is NOT related to that!!! I am healthy as can be and when someone

wrote about Leukemia in this thread I stopped reading it for a few days because I did not

want to know where it the thread was going to go. The true story is rather humorous.

I bought a new house in mid July on a nice wooded lot. The house was in great shape except

for the windows. I dumped $16,000 for new windows and window seats in nearly every room.

The woodwork looked great. We took off for a weeks vacation that we were saving for for

awhile since we knew money would be tight with a new house. Well, when I opened the door to

return home I thought I was robbed. The pillows in the family room were all distroyed and

the house smelt like urine. I ran into the kitchen and saw that some "THING" nawed at the

lovely wood work on the new windows in the kitchen.

I was confused? I went into the dining room and the dining room table was tipped over

because one leg was EATEN half off. And of course the woodwork and framing on the window

were eaten. And I also found some droppings from an animal on the floor. The smell of

urine is getting stronger because there is a huge puddle of it in the corner. I went into

the living room and saw the same friggin' thing. Woodwork eaten by the bottom corners of

each window.

I head over to my daughter's bedroom. And the door is still shut just like it was when we

left for vacation. I open the door and her room is untouched. I shut the door and head to

the the guest bedroom because I can see some extra light coming from the bottom of the door.

This thing, ate through the bottom of the door to get into the guest bedroom. It jumped up

on the bed and ate partof the headboard. The carpeting in the guest bedroom is rather thick

and of course my anal retentive wife vacuumed just before we left so I notice a buch of tiny

footprints going under the bed. I look under it an.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.

There is a friggin' woodchuck sleeping!

So, I gingerly sneak out of the room and place a suitcase in front of the door so the @$%&*

chuck won't get out. I sit in the garage and stare at all of my choices of weapons.

Shovel? Hatchet? Chainsaw? Broom? Lawn Mower? Baseball bat? I settled on my wife's

pepper spray and the burlap bag from my leaf blower. My wife did not want any blood on the

new carpeting. I was thinking the total opposite, the more blood the better the story and

plus insurance will cover it. So, I head back into the room with the pepper spray, work

gloves on and the burlap bag.

Of course the damn thing was awake when I went back in. I tried to spray it while he was

under the bed. I basically sprayed myself because I left my head under the bed when I

sprayed. I bolted out of the room coughing and my wife laughing at me. After I recover I

head back in more pissed off than I was after 4th and 29 against the Eagles in the playoffs.

I flip the mattress and box spring off and go full force at this thing as I corner it. I

sprayed straight in the face while holding my breath. I had my scuba mask on so I could see

past the pepper spray. Once he was hit in the face he was running rampid around the room

running into the walls and door. I jumped on him with the bag and actually got him in on

the first try. Zipped the bag up and saw one of his feet hanging out the end that attaches

to the blower. I forgot the Velcro it shut. I quicly tipped the bag up and wrapped the end

up.

I now have a woodchuck in a bag awaiting death. At the same time I am wearing work gloves,

a scub mask while yielding an empty can of pepper spray looking like something from some

cheap horror film. I grab the shovel and my wife screams that I can kill it. I scream the

loudest BULLSH** you have ever heard. I drop the bag in the fire pit and head to get the

shovel and the baseball bat. Personally I thought the lawn mower would be the best but jail

time for animal cruelty did not sound too good. When I get back the wood chuck is flailing

all around in the bag trying to get out.

My wife screams "Don't kill him!!"

At that moment my tree hugging neighbor runs over and says, "Troy you can't kill an innocent

animal."

I politely set down the bat and walk my Granola bar of a neighbor into my recently renovated

house that he helped me lay the carpet. He was dumfounded by the damage and could not

believe one little animal could do this damage. But he said the bright side was insurance

would cover it and we should let the wood chuck go.

It is not 2 vs 1 and I am screwed. I told my neighbor he can let the animal go as I take

off my gloves and give them to him. He opens the bab and gently pours the God forsaken

animal into the woods.

I search throughout the house and see that the Master bedroom, my daugheter's bedroom and

the bathrooms were left alone. We unpack and start cleaning to get rid of the urine smell.

Lucky for me the chuck like to pee on the ceramic tile in the dining room. He did piss in

the family room a couple of times where he trashed the couch.

So, I contact my insurance agent and it is explained to be the damage due to an animal is not covered under my standard insurance policy. I needed an additional plan, like flood insurance. Now, if this animal ate my football cards I would have been covered with the extra policy I had. Wish he would have ate all my Ryan Leaf, Tim Couch and Akili Smith rookies. I could have made some of the money back.

Now I need to spend about $3,000 on replacement woodwork for the windows. $125 for a new bedroom door. I already spend about a $100 on carpet cleaner and a shampooer. And for the dining room table? It was my grandma's so I don't know how to repair it or a cost as of yet. I hated the headboard in the guest bedroom, we are not replacing it. The couch is fine in the family room but the throw pillows are "thrown" out.

So, that is why I had to sell my set. I am packaging the set tonight and I will be heading to the UPS store tomorrow during lunch to mail it off.

Lastly, now that this piece of crap chuck got away scott free and my insurance is not covering a dime I have set a live trap. Oh yes, a live trap. I am planning on catching and stuffing it and putting him on my mantle. I will keep you updated on the trapping.

A likely story. If I had a nickel for every time I've heard the "woodchuck peed in my house and ate all myh woodwork" story, I'd be a rich man.

1952 Mickey Mantle Rookie....This card was my grandpas but I am selling it to pay Bill Murray to come to my house and trap my animal just as he tried in the early 80's.

Catch the chuck and take him to a vet and have him neutered and then set him free, that should even things out.

Troy. that is one of whackest stories I've ever heard....my folks had a squirrel sneak in a few years ago and it did similar damage to woodwork and moldings....my wuss of a brother called me from the house and said that it looked not like something had tried to break out instead of in image so we went to take a look, and we found the darn critter camped out in the fireplace, so we called Animal Services to get it out of the house....unfortunately, no one had pepper spray

BTW, congrats on the sale, glad it worked out image

FavreFan1971,

That was one of the best stories I have ever read! Dam, I feel your pain and am lauging at the same time. It's a shame you had your house destroyed and had to sell your cards to cover the cost. That's just wrong. Seems like insurance companies have so many little loop holes you never know what is or is not covered.

The wood chuck did not piss in the guest bedroom, just the dining room. Guess he did not want to stink up his own bed.

As for my punctuation I tested in to English 095 in college (High School level) and Jr. level Calc. I made money on the set and spelled Heisman wrong and missed a comma. I will take my number skills over my Engrish any day.

I will be boxing the set up while I watch the Packers get schooled by the Eagles tonight. GO FAVRE!!!

You might want to check with your insurance company again. I had a skunk die under my house and stunk the place up so bad we could not stay there. State Farm paid to have all the carpet and furniture cleaned, the house treated for the smell and a place for my family to stay for 2 weeks. There is a clause that pays for damage done by rodents.

I gave my policy to my corp. attorney. He sent it to one of his contacts and he said I could probably win something in court but the fees would be more than the $3,000-$5,000 I would win. Maybe I could try for something out of court. The contact said the dollar amount is not even close for any atty to consider it because they are going up against an isurance company.

Anyhow it has become a great topic with my family and friends.

A point that will really pissed me off was I went to bring my memory stick from my camera to develop picturs today and the damn thing is blank. WTF??? I wanted to have pictures for insurance just incase but now I am hosed.

I talked with SAN DISK, they said to send the stick in and see if they can recover some files.

FavreFan, I just read your whole story to my wife. I'm sorry to laugh at your misfortune, but that was one of the funniest stories I've ever heard. You did an awesome job relaying it to us.

About the only thing funnier than your story was Lee's "if I had a nickel for everytime I heard the old woodchuck peed in my house and ate the woodwork story" line.

P.S. Any word on how said woodchuck entered your house in the first place?

I'm just holding out that the power stick files are recovered and we get to see some pics. I'm sorry for your problems with this, thankfully no animal like that lives around here that would/could do that. This is truly one of the funniest stories and punchlines I've read in quite a while.

Best...story...ever!
• Woodchuck stories...
When I was eleven I caught a woodchuck and decided to keep it as a pet. I took it down the basement and put it in a fish tank with a piece of plywood over it. I wanted to make sure the woodchuck got some air so I left a small opening over the corner. During the night the woodchuck was able to move the plywood over, climb out of the tank and crawl up the back basement stairs. Before anyone awoke he ate a hole in the bottom of the basement door to make his way into the kitchen, then he ate another hole under the back door to escape.
I grew up in an old 19th century house and these were very heavy doors! My parents still like to bring up this little incident twenty some years later.

Woodchuck update!!

I got up this morining and noticed there was an animal in my live trap! I scoot out of the house with a huge smile. As I get closer I realize it is a friggin squirrel. Hope I spelled that right. Son-of-a-@#$%. I was running late so it is still in the cage.

Wow, what a story. Sorry to hear about and you recover. I owned a historic house that was built in 1909. We had a terrible problem with squirrels in the attic. No not my head, the attic. Nothing worked until someone told me to brush my dogs and cats and take the hair and put it near the places where the would come in off the trees that over hung. Never had another squirrel in the attic again. Seems they smell the animals and stop coming in.

Well, it is spring and my live trap is out again. I have not seen the Woodchuck yet this year. I put brick around my shed because many animals were digging holes under it. Maybe he was burried alive? I did find out the friggin' Woodchuck is a protected species.

I complained to my insurance company numerous times with no avail. I dumped them and went to a new carrier just last month. Catch this, it was reported that my house was damaged by animals. What hell? Do they have some database they keep to just piss me off?
