Crackout Results

I decided to crackout my ANACS, PCI, ICG, and SEGS coins and submit to PCGS. I didn't really know what to expect, but from other posts on the forum I figured I would have better results with a crackout and not crossover.

Here are the results of my 8 free collector submissions:

Line # Item # Cert # PCGS No. CoinDate Denomination Variety Country Grade
1 1 10419887 7168 1886-O $1 US AU53 Was PCI Gold AU50 VAM-1A
2 1 10419888 7240 1896 $1 US MS62 Was SEGS MS63 VAM-4
3 1 10419889 7264 1900 $1 US MS64 Was ANACS MS64 VAM-24
4 1 10419890 7356 1921 $1 Peace US VF30 Was ANACS EF40 VAM-3
5 1 10419891 7357 1922 $1 US MS62 Was ANACS MS62 VAM-12a
6 1 10419892 7357 1922 $1 US AU58 Was ANACS MS61 VAM-5
7 1 10419893 7360 1923 $1 US MS64 Was ANACS MS64VAM-1V
8 1 10419894 7360 1923 $1 US MS64 Was ANACS MS63 VAM-1V

I wanted to do this so they could be used in the registry. I have another submission in with 23 more crackouts.

Nice work. I think it is a toss-up. For some coins, I think it might be best to try to cross-over in the old holder at least once. If you don't get what you like, crack it out and try again.

    You did great!!!

The biggest surprise to me is that none of them bodybagged; that's a bigger accomplishment than many people may realize. Getting some of them to go up is a bonus! image

Nice job! Crack-out is the only way to go (I can just imagine what they would have graded the PCI coin if it was submitted in the holder).

I think it was more luck than buying the coin and not the holder, because I bought all of these coins from pictures online.

I just got the results of my quarterly free submission and didn't do so well on it. Maybe I should have cracked the coin out, but to me the coin was just barely a EF 40 and I was afraid of a downgrade.

I have mentioned this before, but I will say it again. Buy the coin and not the holder! Just because the coin is in a gold label from PCI does not mean squat. I bought a 1972 Type 2 IKE dollar in a PCI AU50 holder last year. I looked at the coin and saw something more than AU50. I cracked it out of its holder and sent it to PCGS where it graded MS63 (correctly graded). That is a 7-point upgrade. What could be better than that?
