100% Complete for my Sandy Koufax Basic Set!

Woo hoo...finally picked up the final piece of the puzzle for my Sandy Koufax basic set. image

For those of you that would like to take a look....ArnyVee's Sandy Koufax Basic Set! (Got pics and info on them all!)

Sitting at 6.97 Weighted GP. I picked up the '57 in a PSA 6, but would like to upgrade that one to a 7 and possibly downgrade my '56 to a 7 and use that money to upgrade a card or two in the set. We'll see.

Nicely done. That's a toughie. Koufax is a Boomer icon, almost in Mantle's neighboorhood. His cards are always in demand.
  • Thanks for the nice words folks...Koufax is definitely a tough little set to put together in good condition. I love the '63 both Topps and Fleer, but I feel that the rookie and the '57 (SP) are two of my favorites.

    nice job
  • Thanks Wildcat!

One of my favorites as well!

I started out with the Magic Johnson player set then started my Dan Marino & Raphael Palmeiro player sets. But, with the Don Drysdale & Sandy Koufax player sets, I've had the most fun. Now, I'm onto some challenging player sets...not from a dollar standpoint, but just trying to locate Camilo Pascual & Luis Tiant cards in high grade. Plus, I have to have them added as there are no basic or master sets listed for either one, yet. image

I just upgraded my Don Drysdale 1965 card from a 7 to an 8. For some reason, that was a tough one for me to get in decent shape with a decent price.

as usual a great job arnyvee.

    Steve
    Good for you.
  • Congrats on completing the Koufax Set Arny image

  • Arny,

    Beautiful set!

As Michael Madsen once said, "Which are you more filled with -- relief or regret?" Relief that the set is now completed or regret that a long-time pursuit has now ended?

    Arthur
  • Arthur, I think that it's a little of both. It's a tough set to put together from a financial standpoint. It set me back a pretty penny (at least for me), but it was really, really fun.

Koufax cards are is so much demand that you end up trying to fight off so many people for the cards. Plus, those bidders are all willing to pay a lot more than I'm usually willing to spend. But, then again it's also easier to collect someone like Koufax versus a minor star or personal favorite because of the numbers of submissions.

I'll still keep an eye out for possible upgrades here and there though.
