grade my Indian

Ok I am trying the scanner again. I am posting double images so please tell me which ones are the better images, I when 200 dots per inch on one set and 300 dots per inch on the second.
this image is 200dpi:

this one is 300dpi:

Now the obverse(much nicer side of this coin)

this is 200dpi

this is 300dpi

I can't grade very well but I think it is at least xf/au. the coin has tons of luster.. IMHO almost too much for it's condition.

Comments

  • AU55 from the 200DPI scans, XF45 from the 300DPI. The 300DPI make the image look granier in texture, and add more chatter to the fields.

    Edited for typo

The coin looks to be high grade AU at a minimum.

MS 62 possibly but probably kept in 61 because of bagginess but maybe 62 (coin not in hand and is a scanner image so this estimate is a crap shoot). 200 dpi is much more forgiving of a photo.

this is the plastic tomb that it is in now:

I bought it a few years ago when i didn't have a clue about grading or collecting for ($300). I soon figured out I got hosed so I put in in the shame on me box and ignored it for years. Now that I know more about coins I am thinking of cracking it out and submitting it. I think it would be worth it if I could snag an AU grade.
Does anyone think it could grade that high at PCGS?
My main reason for getting the coin graded would be for resale so I can fund my platinum addiction.

I think it would definitely grade AU. At least AU-55, I think.

It looks like an AU-55 to me. This wear on the Indian's face and the eagle's wing feathers.

Just goes to show you why these "third world" grading companies have no influence in the market with people who know what they are doing.

MS64 in NNC standards....PGCS would grade less than MS based on their standards

Have you read the replies to this thread? If so, you know that a number of people think it grades AU or higher. image

I am not looking to crossover but rather to get a proper grade on the coin. I can sell it much easier if I get it in a NGC or PCGS slab. I am trying to determine if it could make XF or AU
  • We've already said anywehre from AU55-MS62...

you hit the nail on the head michael. I want to net at least my original 300 plus the grading fee. In XF or AU certified grade I can get that.

  • Woohoo!

I really enjoy this series - I wouldn't call myself an expert, but I do own a couple of these. Based on your scans I would grade your coin MS-62. I do not see any wear, there are obviously some detracting tics, but the strike looks better than average and the fields relatively clean.
  • Thanks artist and everyone else
I did get smarter (I hope)on my purchases of what a ms64 should be :
