edited to add: I dont think I have to worry about being proven wrong on this one!

I think she is a bit weakly struck, but with nice album or roll toning. AU-58?

Obverse: Well struck, with some weakness in the center.

    Reverse: HAMMERED

    Luster: Strong

    Looks MS66 easily.

  • It's in a 65 holder, but I think it should've graded higher. However, I don't know this series very well... image

I guess the lighting makes the coin appear to have rub on the leg and cap. The weakness in the hand and no separation of the thumb prolly kept her out of a higher grade. Perhaps the small hits near the center as well.

Nice Walker, and the Obverse actually looks well struck for the date, and I concur the reverese is hammered for the date. Looks like a 66, but there appear to be hairlines in the right obverse field which may limit it to 65.

I do not know a lot about this particular series, but that looks like a pretty high end 65.

  • Please send me a total for a very fast paypal payment. image Very nice Walker.
  • I would love to find a AU58 tat was that nice (...and they are out there!).

    WOW!

Looks like a great coin to me. From the photo I'd give it an MS-66. If I could see it in person, I might go another point. It's fully original with that wonderful hint of toning that sets it off and says, "I've not been dipped or fooled with."

  • techeff----Don't post a whole lot on the PCGS boards. But this Walker deserves two posts. Am in total agreement with all the folks. It is a wonderful coin. Am especially in agreement with Bill Jones [as I normally am]. This coin IS a 66 and, in hand, I might go another point. And the NT toning is, without a doubt, worthy of some added verbage. Looks like the coin may have spent its life in an old Wayte-Raymond holder. Recently, I have had the priviledge of seeing several such coins. And this piece, for a pre 1920 coin, is top pop in my book. Would love to see it in hand. This coin is a WOW!! WOW!! Bob [supertooth]

Hey Bob, Thanks for your feedback! I've been watching the auctions over the past two years and Gem 1918s rarely come up for auction. And if they do they're usually pretty ugly. The picture I posted represents the coin very well. There are no hairlines and it's virtually mark free. I paid a bit of a premium, but it was well worth it! I will try to upgrade this coin some time in the near future....
