Soccer question for the vintage collectors

I was hoping to get some help on identifying a year on a soccer card. I can't post a scan, but here's a descrpition. The front of the card looks similar to old judge cards. It has a brown frame around the picture and the player's name is H. Spencer. The team is Aston Villa. On the back of the card it says "Smith's Cup Tie Cigarettes in Packets of 10." Card number is 22 The writing in the body of the card says "Of the Aston Villa Team. Played for England against Scotland in 1897." Any help with year and other info would be greatly appreciated.
