A surprising number of half dimes (and half dismes) on this list. Of course, the 1792 half disme is not as difficult to find as it is to pay for. Now here are a few half dimes that have proven impossible to locate:

1829 LM-6.1/V5 Perfect Reverse, with no filled letters
    1834 LM-2/V1 WITHOUT S2 filled

...and from the Liberty Seated half dimes:

    1838 V3, V4, V7, V9

    1841-O V2 Small O

    1844 V1

    1845 V2

    1847 V3

    1848 V2, V4, V8

    1849 V5, V7

    1850 V4

    1850-O V3 Medium O

Shall I go on? I have never seen ANY examples of any of the above Liberty Seated half dimes. I am not even convinced they exist. If you have any of the above, please PM me.

Got one of those, I think I showed you. I think that is more difficult to find than the 1835 LM-10/V-7 without S2 filled.

Yes, you did show it to me. But unless you are offering it to me, then I guess I need to find another one.

And I completely agree that it is more difficult to locate than the 1835 LM-10/V7 without S2 filled. I have a duplicate of that one to trade if anyone is interested.

I keep hoping that there is an unreported 1964 clad quarter or two that
get back into circulation. Most people wouldn't notice anything unusual
about it so I'd have a "good" chance of finding it.

edited to add: those are half dimes
  • For your pocket change collectors, a 1969-P Roosevelt dime and the 1968-D Washington quarter. I went thru about $400, maybe $500 worth, of my dad's accumulated pock change and found only one 1968-D quarter and two 1969-P dimes.

Should be an easy find according to the CDN and Redbook:

Any "common Philly" date seated quarter from 1840-1849 in gem orig mint state. But I'll take a rarer date as well. An 1843, 44, 45, 46 or 47 would do nicely. TPG pretenders or conserved coins need not apply.
Would probably need to be a strong MS66 to qualify as a true gem. Have not seen such a coin in ages. Just need one.

I'd like to own a 1795 Small Eagle $5 gold coin. That reverse is the one U.S. coin design that I don't have in any form. I don't have every type coin, but I do have all the designs except that one on at least ONE coin.

Oh and one other thing. I want a REAL AU that has NOT been shined up to look bright. I want crusty original surfaces.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

For some reason, the 1831 Capped Bust Half in AU58.

It is much tougher to find in PQ condition, then the mintage

    would indicate.

My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable !
  • For me the really hard ones continue as:

    1) 1885CC Morgan in AU53, costing less than a MS62/64

    2) 1794 Silver Dollar on PO-1 to AG3, realistically priced, not retooled

    3) A true PQ MS63 Morgan 1893CC, both with a full stike and cleaner 63 cheek/fields
theyre either flat around the hair and MS61/2, or torn-up with too many marks for a real 63.

    4) Earlier Bust Halves in MS63/4 with absolutely no rub, and full luster (ie not "AU-63's")

    5) Any original 19th Cent. MS coin from top old collections, that hasn't been upgraded twice--and still bids near sheet!image
