Today's Purchase

Picked this one up at the coin shop earlier today. I spotted it (a little out of place) among some misc. certified US stuff.

1826 Swiss Canton, Bern - 5 Batzen

Anyone care to guess the grade on the label?

I'd agree with Don on the MS63, although it wouldn't suprise me to see a TPG go a point in either direction...

Other than denomination, it looks like the coin I have below, which is in an ancient yellow-label PCGS holder, MS65. You can't see it in the pictures, but it actually has PL surfaces.

  • Well, I agree with you guys... unfortunately, PCGS had a different opinion.

They gave this one an AU58. image

It did help me out on the purchase though - because he practically gave it away to me at XF book. If I were one to do so, I would definitely crack this one out for another opinion.
  • Looking at the bear in coinpicture's coin, and then comparing to Ricke's, I was going to guess that the coin was graded AU something. I see wear points on Mr. bear.

Hey, easy for me to say now, right? image

Interesting coins, and I had never seen one before. Thanks for the pics.
