How many think a classic proof set would be a big seller?

In a previous thread, kwmorgan suggested the mint make a classic proof set. With a wheat cent, buffalo nickel, Mercury dime, SLQ, Walker, and Peace dollar.

If the mint did this in 2009. And included a full copper VDB wheat cent. Limited mintage just for collectors. Would it be a big seller for the mint? And do you think they should do it?

Edited to add: Not only full copper alloy for the cent but also silver for all other coins. Including the nickel.

Thanks also edited for and please pardon my terible speeling. image

    How about some new designs?
  • Good new designs would be great.

This would be 1 year only. And I'm thinking 2009 for a Lincoln cent VDB. That most seem to want before the cent is discontinued. (if ever)

    Classic
    Buffalo
    Nickel
    Peace

Please make note of these spellings

I for one don't think that the Peace Dollar is that attractive. The reverse is OK, but I've never been a big fan of the obverse. The rest of the designs look great in their original form, but I really wish that we could come up with something new.

I think that some of the state quarters have been quite nice, but a lot of collectors complain about the relief. Well guess what! The primary use for these coins is for commerce and as such the mint must be able to turn out hundreds of millions or even more than a billion of these coins to keep up. Because of that they must be easy to strike.

I say hats off to the mint system for doing a decent job with the series.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

  • speaking of spelling.

Can someone tell me if there is something about "smoe" that I'm unawear of?

I see it so often I don't think it can be a mistake.

    Oh, absolutely!

It's not enough that the mint is flooding the hobby with recently minted pieces... now they should start restriking ALL old classics, and keep it up until the very pavement is littered with coins, and they're all so common and available that everyone can have as many as they want, all in perfect condition!

Now THAT would be "coin collecting"

edit: "smoe" used to be funny, about a thousand times ago. now it just makes those who use it look like fools.

Russ, don't you think "eBay scamfest" is redundant?

I think it'd be great. Didn't Canada do something like that a few years ago?

If the mint made a "classic proof set" of Draped Bust Cent/Half Cent, Capped Bust Half Dime, Capped Bust Dime, Capped Bust Quarter, Capped Bust Half Dollar and the Draped Bust Dollar I'd buy one. As long as it wasn't insanely priced that is.
