2006 is shaping up as a major year for moderns

And an expensive year for collectors. (I've taken the bait. image)

The Mint has had...
* 4 commems - 2 Franklin designs and SanFran mint silver & gold designs, more if you count the unc's & proofs separately
* Gold Buffaloes
* We are still in the statehood quarter years
* and now the American Eagle Silver and Gold Anniversary coins!
+ of course the usual offerings like mint and proof sets - and I've probably forgotten something.

Do you think 2006 is a special year with all these new offerings?

or will the Mint keep it up until we end up like Canada and their plethora of yearly offerings?

Next year we'll have the Presidential dollars to throw on the pile!

    I think it's just another year in the line of the Mint having progressively more items available to sell. In a few years the amount of mint product will make you dizzy.

    There must be an economic threshold at some point where TOO much being offered cheapens the value of everything. I hope they stay below that threshold.

  • don't forget the proof platinums. A wonderful series with a changing reverse every year and the fractional coins have mintages in the 4000 to 6000 range.

    I think that threshold has already been crossed.

    This is most accurate statement.

    It was only a few years ago that we were supposed to have only one or two commemorative issues per year. Now we are up to four if you consider the 10th anniversary gold and silver coins to be commemoratives, which they most certainly are. It’s getting to be too much, but I have kept up with my modern commemorative sets and did buy the gold and silver coins that were offered today.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    Exactly............and it won't be pretty in the end.............the end being when the overblown amount of unecessary issues crashes just like sportscards did in the 90s. Get ready!
    Enjoy each day as though it was your last.
