I dont remember the whole story but there is a guy who has a hoard of 1975 minis and he sells them once in awhile. He does not sell a big quantity, just enough to blend into the market. I believe he is from Michigan. That box is so sweet...

That breaks down to less then 45 dollars a pack. What do these packs usually sell for?

How tempting is that! I didn't buy cards in the '70s and think this would be fun! How many takers would it take to make this financially doable?? (How much wood would a woodchuck chuck...)

    25 people @ $1000 dollars a piece

    50 people @ $ 500 dollars a piece

    100 people @ $250 a piece

Steve may even cut a deal with us, I think he like us over here.

Hey arny you think we can get 116 guys in at 225.00

Guys this would be an amazing pack bust imagine all the psa 10 possibilities. I've been spinning my wheels all day.
I just got off the phone with steve and if we can get enough guys to be serious about this he will make us a deal. He thought it was a joke at first then he remebered how much expensive wax i tore open at his national booth and realized i was serious.
Here's a rough figure give or take a couple bucks.

    116 people at $225 = 5 packs
    192 people at $135 =3 packs
if enough poeple seem interested i'll start a new thread and try to get this rolling. i'll even contact beckett and scd i bet we could get some good press about a pack bust like this that would make it even more fun

    PM me let me know
  • Options
Sounds like fun. I would be up for this on other years as well where maybe you might get a few more packs for your money.
  • Options
I am definitely interested. I'd need to see the hardline finished breakdown before I commit 100% but I am definitely interested.

I'm also in agreement with Senor Winters. Maybe once we have a ballpark of how many people are interested we could take a look at other items and see where we can get the most bang for our buck. I'm not picky when it comes to what.

Although, come to think about it....those aren't that many packs to rip....maybe we should go for something like a wax case of '84 Donruss or '80 Topps or something a little less expensive. That way, we can have some good fun with many packs and maybe have one person per night rip, scan & post the results! Every night would be a new adventure!

I would think that we'd want about 20 guys (or gals image ) to be involved and pick up two cases at least of some early 80s baseball and/or football. Maybe some '82 or '83 Topps Football and some '82 Topps or '83 Topps baseball...something like that. This way, we each get at least a couple of boxes worth of rippin'....thoughts?

BBCExchange seems to be havin' some server issues because the page isn't comin' up for me. But, when it's back up, maybe someone can post some info about the wax cases available of the early 80s stuff.

Wow, at $42/pack it seems a little high. I understand wanting to pull a nice Montana rookie, but I'm not sure that I'd want to go that route.

I couldn't find any early Topps cases on BBCE (which I suggest we use, for both price and security). But, of course, that doesn't mean Mr. Hart doesn't have them.

As far as baseball goes ...

Most of it are cellos. From what the kind folk here on the board have told me is that cellos are the bottom of the barrel as far as condition goes compared to others. They do have wax of '82 ($125/box) and '83 ($125/box). The reason why I'm leaning more towards the FB is that I'd like to get in on something that I normally wouldn't be able to or wouldn't. Say, a half a box of '84 or something. Maybe even more. But the difference between box and case price is negiligible and I normally wouldn't go for '82 or '83 BB wax. The cost, however, is much nicer. BBCE has '84 FB boxes at $450.

I do like Arny's idea of possible getting in on two different products.

From here I'll just leave it up to the seasoned vets and go along with what they deicde. image

    Arthur
  • Options
As far as the '81 FB grocery rack case ... they're essentially just 3 smaller cellos in one package. The fact that the packs have admittedly been searched through (by at least two different owners) makes me a little uneasy about that. Just my $0.02

As much fun as the 75 mini's would be I agree that it would be MORE FUN to rip something a little less pricey and get more bang for our buck.
Hopefully we can make this happen in the near future! image

Well I thought the 75 case would be a once in a lifetime event. But I am up for a different break if thats the consensus. lets try to decide something. I've bought quite a bit from steve and he seems to cut me a bit of a break . But I don't want to keep buggin him about different cases unless we come to a consensus.
Arny mentioned 85 druss and 82 topps baseball. i'm pretty sure i can get him to let us have both cases for 4,000

Though i'm still on a mission to bust that 75 case sports collectors daily already emailed me and said they would run a on going story if we do break it got about 20 people emailed me so far. Yes it's not many packs per$ but when could this kind of pack bust ever be repeated.
Probably never. I've had fun with the 80's pack busts on here but we could do the 80 pack bust anytime.
I know everyone cant afford this thats why the 80's pack busts are fun.
But for those of us fortunate enough to be able to do it. imagine those nice crisp untouched 75 packs staring that blazing red pack at you.

anyways theres my .02 lets see where we go from here

I agree with you as well. I think if we could get 116 people for $225 and get 5 packs apiece, this rip would be unprecedented. Do you think we could get 116 people? I would do it in a second and you're right...We could do a case break of cheaper stuff anytime. Cases like this don't come around very often.

We can get these packs for the same price that steve sells the packs on his site for. But look at the case for crying out loud. Those packs have never been handled! I want to be a part of breaking that sucker and seeing those beautiful miniature cards.

What is the general condition of the '75s fresh out of the pack?

Not sure but it has to be someone who we all know and trust.
And as far as the case goes it does look clean but who can ever tell what it has been exposed to over the last 30+ years.
Hopefully it's been kept as dry as possible.

Yount and Brett rookies are the big two along with a whole slew of HOF players.
As far as condition goes it's no different then any older issue. Bad centering, diamond cuts and this year is known for printing issues especially fish eye's. As Steve has said in the past the value is in leaving it sealed because your odds are not the greatest. Not sure if I would have them graded as packs or rip them.

Brett and Yount are the 2 big ticket rookies. There are 2 Hank Aaron cards and 2 Nolan Ryan cards. Gary Carter, Kieth Hernandez and Fred Lynn rookies too. Low pop 9's and 10's bring in some good coin also. A PSA 10 Yaz 1/1 recently sold for $900+.

    This should wet some whistles.

Oh also, a regular issue(not mini) PSA 9 Nolan Ryan went for $2k+ and it was a 1/17. There are only 16 mini 9's of Mr. Ryan.

edited to add: and zero 10's in the mini.
