You would think that 2 bidders with over 300 FB each would have more smarts than that by now. Looks like they lost to someone with even less smarts [or a shill/plant] than them. Or maybe they know something that no one else does.
You have to feel sorry for the buyer. And yes, I agree, the seller deserves a big neg for that one. Showing the coins in the holder in the picture was dirty pool.
Sadly there had to be two guys who didn't bother to read the BIG PRINT, and bid as if they were getting coins, not just holders.
Sometimes the holders go for decent prices because there are collectors out there who want their coins in the original mint packaging. A lot of the holders are getting separted from their coins. I've had quite a few dealers buy the coins from me and tell me to toss the holders.
Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
Only one bidder with any feedback rating bid on this over 1 cent. It might suggest that the guy who bid this up to $300 might be a shill. The newbie with 0 FB's is the one who entered a higher bid of $305. Tough luck newbie, there is time to remove your bid and bail. With 4 days to go in this auction I suspect there will be some retracted bids.
This one is going to result in a couple of negs exchanged. It's pretty slimy for a seller to do that. If you're selling a holder with no coins, then PICTURE it with no coins. The seller knew exactly what he was doing, and got exactly the response he hoped for.
Made me think of something else. I could imagine a ridiculous submarket selling crackout tags of important rarities. Take a 1913 Liberty nickel crossed from NGC to PCGS. Someone out there who would never get one of those coins might pay good money to own the NGC tag. 1804 dollar, ....
It's really the same as keyword spamming, only to a higher degree of deceit. Why not state "2001 proof set packaging" in the title? Why not sell swamp land in Florida but use a picture of a scenic lake with Million dollar homes surrounding it? With enough money, your swamp land could look just as good. And with enough money, you can buy the missing coins for your proof set packaging.
The deceit appears intentional which seems odd for a guy with 100% FB.
It says "no coins" in the title. I don't know how a bidder could miss this...I think that the seller will cancel the auction and relist it or email the bidders and tell them to cancel their bids. You are right it does not add up with the sellers feedback of 100%. I think he just messed up and will relent...We shall see. JMHO. Bob
<< <i>I am confident that this ebay newbie (and a few others) thought that he was getting the coins...and a major rip, to boot. An ethical seller would:
1. Show the holder for sale without the coins in it.
2. Remind the buyer in an email that the coins do not come with the holder and let him off the hook, if the buyer so desires.
Of course, in this crazy coin market, who knows what people will buy? >>

Theres nothing wrong with this. He said there are no coins icluded. The bid is olny to $.35. I think they are aware its for the case to olny be paying .35 cents. He sold the case. for cents, not hundreds of dollars or anything like that.
If ive missed out on somehting here please let me know.

i'll tell you what, some of our members have bought into the dumbing of America and the insistence of playing to the lowest common denominator in the intelligence equation. there are clearly four places in the listing which state NO COINS that any reasonable viewer/bidder should be able to see. this whining has gotten ridiculous.
It's obvious that some of you like to see a fool and their money parted. Maybe some of you defending it even wish it was you who was so lucky.
I just hope you wouldn't show a PICTURE of the holder with coins in it. Caveat emptor or not, you know darn well the intention is to get some careless schmuck to pay $300 for it. And if that's okay in your world, that's not a world I want to live in. I'll agree that there's nothing illegal about this, nor should there be, but to *morally defend* it makes me sad.

Earlier today the bid was at $305 and it looks like the 2 high FB bidders have retracted their bids. Apparently a word to the wise by someone WAS sufficient. Also I see that the item description has been revised, so yes you missed out on smoething.

You must have missed it. The bid was up to $305 before someone got wise and retracted their bid.

Either way, this seller is about to get his first neg (and rightly so if you ask me).
