Has FUN become "the auction" to sell high grade IH's?

There was a time when the summer ANA was the major show for these coins, besides a few Long Beach sales of major collections.

It seems like FUN is now the major yearly auction of high grade Indian Head cents.

It started with a bang with the Gorrell FUN sale of 2003, stayed warm with the Richard collection of 2004,
and became absolutely red hot with the Joshua/Ally collection in 2006.

Just a blip on the radar screen, or is Heritage the IH collectors prefered auction house?

If this is true, why do you think that is the case?

I am curious as well. I have a high grade IHC proof that I will probably sell this year. I think I want to first send it Rick Snow for eagle eye attribution, so I know what I am selling.

Don't know about IHs but the prices there at Platinum night for high plastic graded Lincolns were insane. A couple of them were ones I sold a year or so prior for 1/10 of the money or less. (No bad feelings on that just jaw dropping astonishment.) And several were clearly great for registry sets but not for really great colelctions. I love Mikey's "paralyzed by plastic" term for some collectors.

I think there should be a major auction that highlights only those 'attractive' ones which are blue!

Paul - My #1 PCGS Registry set of PF IHCs was sold at FUN with the Gorrell set - It was a wonderful night image

If I was selling a nice set of IHCs, I would put them in Heritage's FUN auction

Collecting eye-appealing Proof and MS Indian Head Cents, 1858 Flying Eagle and IHC patterns and beautiful toned coins.

I had never thought about a certain auction being "the" auction for a series. Interesting.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
