I just bought this Hannes Tulving slabbed Morgan. Are these slabs common?

  • I gotta say i have never heard of them, but I have also only been collecting coins for close to a year now so if it is an older company that has since went out of business or something that would explain it. But I have also never seen one on ebay or anywhere else that I can remember either

Been slabbing a long time. I was in a coin shop one day and a lady came in with a pile of junk in Tulving holders that she said she paid thousands for. She left the shop in tears.

Tulving and Blanchard were very big with "investor coins" I think in the 70s and 80s. I got the impression that most people who bought there generic gold & silver "investor coins" wished they didn't buy them.

I have a box of them. I didn't cry, it was my tuition. The grading is pretty accurate, though.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

  • Tulving sold investment portfolios in the late 80's.

Bought 1 myself around 1989 and sold it back to them after about 6 months for what i paid.

They Got in a pickle with the FTC or the SEC over stated returns and so on.

They did offer to have all the coins they sold graded by NGC at no charge as i recall so the grades were not a problem.

I bought a Kenny on the bay couple years back just to have one.

  • Is this the same same Hannes Tulving that was convicted of coin scams and fraud in the 1970's ????

Didn't the federal trade commission ban him from being in the coin business?
  • They only sell PCGS graded bullion

Actually they sell non slabbed bullion as well. And from what I understand they are one of the largest bullion dealers in the nation. Very high minimums, 20oz for gold.

Looks like he's changed business models over the years. I think I read he had a stroke awhile back too, but has apparently returned (or has assistants that keep things running). I check his site for lowest prices on bullion, but as I can't afford his minimums I use them for comparasion shopping purposes only.

I have bought a lot of coins from Hannes over the years at great prices. I never knew that they slabbed coins though. (must of been before I started buying from him) He has always treated me great, and you talk about fast shipping?? He is the quickest!
