Short and sweet...

I believe in free speech.

I believe that, at times, one should allow a few to have at it...

Heck, I've done it myself, on a few occasions.

But, here's where I'm done...

Two new - potentially alternate ID's - or "recruited" agitators - have been created in the last 24 hrs.

One, took my icon and tried to humiliate me.

I've done nothing to deserve this - and I won't dignify the act with a harsh response.

But, I've had enough.

I'm moving on for now. I've done nothing but try to be learn here and provide some input.

We have been taken in by - what looks like - troll behavior.

I have a few mailers that need to go out - and you guys know who you are - so they will be in the mail.

I posted a serious question recently wanting to know about resubmitting cards, and got two responses.

You posted a topic about your computer and cat and got 20.

I sure hope you don't think I'm an alternate ID, I'm not smart enough to figure it out. And I don't mean to single your topic out. It's that the silliness, bs, and nonsense posts get more attention than a serious one.

Hope you don't stay gone. MOST of your posts are the best.

I don't mean to long for the past, but things just seemed more fun and educational around here back when....

Mike, I'd hope you stay around. I do get annoyed by the petiness that is quick widespread but eh, what's a guy to do? I haven't been here nowhere near as long as a lot of people on here, but you have something you actually bring to the table in discussions and collecting. I'd like to see a mod introduce an ignore button.

I dont think you are grouping a few select people ( myself being one) in having it out big time in a couple of threads, with the few that are creating alts to simply start trouble. You were one of the first that greeted me when I arrived here, and i would hope you are around long enough to not have to say goodbye.

i just received a PM from somebody telling me they think I am an alt.. LOL.. the person that PM'd me also stated earlier in a thread that he had "been in contact with the person (he) believes to be an alt".. -- but yet, *I* am the person he suspected, and he HAD NOT been in contact with me..

does anybody here really believe i need to use an alt to speak my mind? ive never had a problem saying exactly what i was thinking, using my own name..

SM1 & carolj can vouch for the fact i post from only one ID..

It's no coincidence that the "riddle wrapped in an enigma, wrapped in s--t from a cowardly dog" alt has deleted half his posts today.

Better to just ignore the puke and move on.

I think we all have an idea who it is, or to whom the alt is connected.

Wow! What the heck happened here? I took a nap in preparation to working tonight....the RichG thread is gone, Stone said he is leaving (Please say it isnt so Mike!), and I missed it.

I hope that Carol figures out who the trouble makers are and has them knocked off this board for whatever they did. I also hope they make public who it is so we all know...or at least let Mike know so he will hopefully decide to come back.

This is really a black eye for the PSA message boards.

See, this is what I meant when I said yesterday that these forums are not what they once were.

I missed the post where someone took Mike's icon - but let me tell you, whoever did that made a major mistake. And, the whole "RichG" thread stunk from the very beginning - no need to start it in the first place, and then a lot of childish taunting and name-calling that I wouldn't expect to see here on this forum (maybe Beckett, or another kid-inhabited card forum, but not CU).

I don't care much for this either - and like Mike, it may be time for me to take a break as well. I don't need to see new forum members come on here and automatically start saying they want to fight with everyone, they have a bad attitude, blah blah blah. Who cares about your attitude? I come here to relax, share info about cards and related topics, and shoot the sh*t. For bickering and insults, there are a lot of places I can go. For card discussions, there are places I can go, too, without this drama.

But, if you get forum members like Mike and the rest of us to go - I would hate to see the barren wasteland that is left here.

that maybe how it seems to you, but reality shows that this thread is the only one of the first 60+ threads in this forum that does not pertain to sportscards or hobby related topics..

the richG thread was deleted, or it would be 2 out of 60+ posts.. the last before those was made by lostdart trying to play forum police..

maybe you should try to read the other 58 threads..

Wow, I see this goes on in all types of board forums. I was a part of a music forum for awhile and it got really bad with trolls until they starting the signing in and keeping your login secure.... there were people who tried to play on names in an attempt to trick people after that, but it was still better. I'm surprised to see this occurs on this type of board as well, especially since you do have the secure IDs... sorry to hear of your trouble!

I wasn't really talking about the last 24 hours or anything like that. Between the threads on RichG, SouthernCards, Stone arguing with Dava-whatever, they get old. This forum is for sportscards, not petty bull$hit fights over deals that went bad on a personal level

Sorry to hear the crap got too thick for you. Because you're such a high-profile kind of guy, you became an obvious target most likely. I try not to follow the personal-assault threads, which has become harder to do because every thread is subject to it. I've been married for 25 years this year and my wife and I owe it to never really fighting or arguing per se. We have our moments, but we don't get mad and say things that, no matter how much you apologize, can never be taken back. These pissing contests on the boards get old to me and detract from the fun and relaxation collecting provides for me. I think a lot of rivalries start, and become pretty intense, on the Sports Talk thread. I avoid that forum as much as possible.

Hope you have second thoughts about dropping out. You're a good man who has built up a lot of respect here. Personally, I don't want to see you leave...

I hope you reconsider. I don't post much, but you were one of the first to welcome me. I have found your posts to be very helpful and encouraging to other collectors. I know it can be annoying and discouraging the way some people misuse message boards, but don't let it keep you from what you enjoy on these boards (For example the "proud" thread where you find nice things to say about everyones items whether it is a PSA 10 high end card or a $1.00 card).

I have noticed you getting a little "testy" over the past month or so, most likely because of all the crap people talk here and how a lot of guys are fishing for arguments for no apparent reason. To draw a parallel, the same thing happens when I'm playing poker online (I know you play recreationally, so you may have seen it too). This problem has gotten progressively worse with people slinging around insults like they're on Jerry Springer. All I do now is keep the chat on "silent" and go about my business. I'd suggest maybe you could do the same here- just read the threads that have relavent info and ignore the "Soandso is an a-hole" threads. What you don't know can't piss you off.

Stone - if Enigma is who I think it is, he has been kicked off this board under a lot of different IDs, and is thoroughly hated in the hobby - especially by vintage hockey collectors. That person is the consummate troll, and if you leave, he wins.

Mike ole buddy, I have had a rough week this week also. The bank where I work got robbed this week. I and my co-workers and friends found ourselves at the mercy of some idiot with a .38 revolver. Luckily no-one was seriously hurt. My best friend at the branch got psitol whipped but he will be ok. I am going to relax this weekend with my family and praise the lord that I am still around to love them and watch my children grow up. I will have a few beers with friends at our annual fantasy football league draft going on 10 years now. My parents are coming over to watch the kids tommorrow night and we are all going to have a big time. Im not going to let what happened at the bank this week effect my family life or keep me up nights. im sure as heck not going to let a few idiots on an internet message board keep me from enjoying it or this board. Mike, I truly think you love this board and most of your friends and acquaitences here, Take the the weekend end off, Have a few beers, spend time with the family and come back next week ready to do what you love. It is rare to find someone of your genorosity, personality, and knowledge of the hobby, these boards would be hollow without ya man.

Stone, I had one other thought I had to share. As a testament to what you mean to this forum, just start reading your "Mail Call" thread from beginning to end. It's the most popular thread here and I can't recall much, if any, animosity being raised in it. That (and the postcard thread) are the ones I'll read when I'm short on time. That's what brings me back again and again.

Very well said. I agree 100%. Like anything else in life, too much of anything is not good at all. There will always be those that hang around looking to become the center of attention for coming off like a jerk for any number of reasons, and those "posters" become readily apparent real soon (no names necessary here). I hope you'll return to these boards, Mike, and can separate yourself from all the nonsense, but it's certainly your call to make, and wish you luck whatever you decide. Life goes on.

Thanx for the kind words – I very much appreciate it.

Now, I don’t want to come off as the drama queen of PSA – I was very disappointed in how I was treated by Enigma – sometimes words “do” hurt. What made it bad, was that the ID was created just to go after me - attacking the way I post. Now, I know when it comes to collectibles I’m a staunch non-investor but I have never pontificated or denegraded the other position – at least not consciously?

Now, Shawn – aka BigRed – I totally understand how you feel – I will have to apologize for the thread – you are correct – it has little to do with cards/memorabilia. But, let’s be fair – a good chunk of the posts have to do with selling on ebay – in some ways over the months, this forum has been converted into an “ebay how-to-book” – but I don’t mind. I just move on to the next thread. Hey, ya never know, I might start selling and need some advice! Whether I posted about my cat or someone else about ebay, the fact is that your thread got the attention it got for this time period.

I have posted many threads about memorabilia and received little attention. I always feel bad when a thread is ignored but sometimes that’s all the knowledge that’s available that moment. I hope next time your thread gets more attention.

Now, I did take this position for emphasis and in an attempt to represent those who post in the spirit I do and believe in. As was said – I truly enjoy it here.

I took about a month off a while back and it helped – I think I post way too much. My collection is calling me to come out and play!

I’ll be back in a bit.

ctsox- I wasn't around in the "good ole days" and I really don't like how frequently that is brought up. Those of us that are here for the love of the hobby hate that we are lumped into this era of people who are not as good as the old timers. Sorry, but posts like that never sit well with me.

The thing that sucks is that most of us are grown men and it would be nice if people would act accordingly. I have never mummed a word here I wouldn't say to someones face and the people who use this to air out their aggressions behind their keyboards are simply cowards. If you think that last statement applies to you, then it likely does.

Lets get back to the basics and talk about cards and questions on cards. eBay stuff obviously will not go anywhere so if some people don't like those, skip over them as I am sure you have been. But as far as personal attacks, its only human nature to open those if someone you like is "under the gun." Its kinda like slowing down to look at an accident, we all hate that people do it but when we finally get there we have to take a look. Those threads are uncalled for in this enviornment. Alts are uncalled for. If thre is something you want to say that shouldn't be said with your "respectable" identity, it shouldn't be said at all.


But I digress. I too have taken breathers and it has helped to recharge the old battery. Be well Mike, we'll hold the fort while your gone pal.

I would like to say somehting about this Enigma guy. This might sound bad but I can see why users like richg are targeted for ridicule, but not Mike. In my time here I have never seen Mike be rude or give anyone reason to mock him. In fact, he would go out of his way to help people. He doesnt deserve this.
