Does Anybody Have a Picture of Joseph Lesher's House in Victor Colorado?

Adrian and I were in Victor, CO today and there was no identification as to which house was his. We even asked around at the visitor's center and nobody knew who Joseph Lesher was!

I would bet that QDB knows. And he probably has a photo too.

you could also inquire with the ANA or perhaps Hallenbeck Coins, they're from the area. maybe even Evan Gale or one of the local outfits could help. if you can get ahold of some old Elder catalogs or the 1909-1911 magazines there might even be something. i have a few but they're all locked in the bank box.

I believe I recall an A.N.A. Numismatist article within the past two years about the Lesher Dollars which included a photo of the Lesher home. Try checking the Numismatist index of articles. I'd have to believe that the A.N.A. Library has a photo on file as well.

    Good work, Gemini!

I was thinking about visiting but it's over an hour drive from Colorado Springs due to the circuitous route.

    Ah, but what a drive!!!!!
If the road is open, take the old stagecoach from up above the Broadmoor Hotel around behind Pikes Peak to Victor. Of course, I had four-wheel drive when I lived out there........

    Thread Revival Alert

Ed Rochette wrote "New Leshers Restore Old House" in Winter issue #58 page 38 of Bowers Rare Coin Revue where a section of the house is shown in its pre-restored condition.

Just ran across the photo in Rare Coin Review and this thread at the same time. Crazy!

The big Victor Info-wall down the street talks about the town's history and heyday, making no mention of Lesher.

    Great photos @Crackout and @messydesk!

It's interesting to note that the Welcome to Victor sign doesn't mention Joseph W. Lesher. Of note, Victor was a gold mining town of about 18,000 people at its height, now with less than 400 residents.

Given that Victor was a gold mining town, I wonder how popular Lesher Dollars were as they advocated using silver.

Also a huge thanks to Dave Bowers for buying the Lesher House in 1980 and donating it to the ANA.

The house looks nice after the restoration though I probably would have stained / sealed it and not painted it. I would have tried to protect it with modern sealants but not change the colors or trim style.

Is it still owned by the ANA? It doesn’t look like a point of interest.

There are a lot of flowers in front of the house. I wonder who owns the house and cares for those.

I'd love to metal detect around that house. There are certainly alot of Lesher dollars that are unaccounted for🤔

I did a little research and found one additional photo of the old house from a different view. Then I took a couple of screen shots of how it currently looks from Google street view.

    What's the address?

I spent part a day in Victor and didn’t know it was there. I have some photos of this almost ghost town. It’s good to see that the house is still standing given that people contributed money to restore.
