Sending coins back to the Mint.

How long does it take to receive conformation on the return of coins sent back to the Mint? I called the post office and they said it had been delivered and the Mint says they have not received it....I am worried as this was a lot of money tied up...can someone give me some lite on the Mints procedure and time frame? Thank You.

Did you pay cash or use a credit card?

On the two occasions that I sent coins back because they were defective, it was on a credit card, and I got messages from them within a couple of weeks of returning the items. And the credits appeared on my next credit card bill.

I've not had a problem so I did not count the days. My main problem was that the coins were really bad (finger print on a Proof, MAJOR marks or manufacturing problem on a Prooof) and had no business getting past their quality cointrol from the get-go.

I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
  • I payed with a credit card....Mine were damaged also...just makes me nervous because of the value...My lack of trust with the post office and Fed Ex and all the theft...I just get real nervous...
  • I sent back a couple of 2005 proof platinums that I had bought near the end of the offering period. It took about a month to get the credit posted on my credit card. You can check the "My Account" section of the mint's website. Your return info will be posted there when they log it in.

About a week or two after the Post Office says they delivered them, they will show up as returned in your Mint account. It takes a while. I think they need to verify the coins before they issue credits and such.

Also, the Customer Service rats don't know anything about the returns, so don't even bother talking to them, they just look at the account and see the same thing you do.
