Question about silver value...

My question is about half OT.

I was visiting my parents last night and they asked me what they couild get for their silver coins and sterling silver silverware. They have a few common silver coins (Morgan and Peace dollars, and misc. other coins). A couple of years ago you could get about 3 times face for silver coins. As for the silverware, I have no clue.


I'd like to know:

What is the (silver) value of silver coins today?

Is there a way to determine the value of sterling silver silverware buy weight, or a site that will tell you?

You should be able to get about 7x face value for 90% silver coins. Maybe a bit more for Morgan and Peace dollars depending on their date/grade.

I have no simple idea on the sterling silver silverwear.

If you can find someone who wants the silverware AS silverware it will be worth significantly more than the scrap value. Why? because if I am looking to buy silverware and I'm looking at new, the price is WAY WAY above the metal value. (Back during the big silver boom of 79 - 80 I knew a lot of people who went to the people buying scrap to poke through their sterling silverware scrap looking for their patterns to buy extra settings. Back then a setting that would scrap out for under $100 would often cost $300 to $500 to buy new.) of course settings don't cost as much today but I would still expect the scrap value to be well below the "use it" price.
