    Great, another Gold Buffalo thread.
  • So what, that makes the price go from 5K to what, 15% over melt?

Russ, I have not followed pricing trends for these. Can you comment on whether pricing has fallen and by how much?

No matter what, they are still a hunk of gold.

I still can't believe someone shelled out 5 g's for one ebay. What was he thinking.

As for pricing, I sold one last night for $3550 but I probably didn't get top dollar since my ebay feedback didn't include any coin sales and some buyers were scared off. One sold earlier in the day for $4000. I got a lot of questions and e-mails from dealers wanting to buy my "First Strike" designated proofs. There appears to be at least a few people that think the "first strike" designated buffalos will appreciate or at least trade well for a while. There will only be another week or two of the first strike designation as they are turning them around in a few days. I got mine back in about a week. anyway, I now have cash to take the kids on vacation.

    Cheers,
    Jerry

Well said. But is it worth it? I think NOT!

They've dropped by over 30% from that first sale at $5600. They will soon be down by 50%, which is what I predicted when the first one sold. By the end of the year, they'll be selling for under $2K.

Oh, and the "first strike" coins aren't bringing any more than the ones not designated first strike.

Yeah, there are two of them. I bet Marty's pissed! image

He was thinking that if someone watched his auction they might FALL FOR IT the second time he sold the same coin.

After all he probably sold it to himself the first time.

Well some people must be blessed, because I've worked with 35 Proofs, sent in 4 of the best and got 4 - 69's. So that's 31 proofs less than a 69, 4 - 69's and NO 70's.

I'd almost want to buy one of the PR70's just to see what kind of scam PCGS is running.

Every single coin had rim problems on the Buffalo side, except for the 69's and those were only 69's, so I can't even imagine what a 70 looks like.

They look just like the 69's.
  • I have one PR70DCAM, it is not a "First Strike" coin. The other six proofs all came back 69s. All the 69's sustained rim damage on the reverse outer edge rim centered about the 7 o'clock position. I would love to see how these are minted because the damage is consitent in placement, but not the severity. ...Maybe a stop on a slide?....

    where is the elusive 69.9
    the NGC 69* ?

To have more and more 70's really diminishes the market.
Okay, in a few years, when there are no more graded and only 125 PERFECT ones in PCGS
and 1250 in NGC holders, what we end up with is 1375 mis-graded coins and that is sad.

let's forget the pricing for a minute and think REALISTICALLY.

a 69.9 allows for the hundred point scale (almost)... it does also admit that there are NO PERFECT coins and they will never stay that way in our acid rain environment. Not even the boy in the plastic bubble can live forever in an imperfect world.

That is and will always be my stance on MS70 or PF70...
    point 9 will still sell ... just a little more than a 69.8 or a 69.7

Proof 70s have dropped 40% since the initial coin on Ebay.

The MS70s dropped 40% in the last week. Tulving was selling them for $1700 each last week, now you can get them for $1200 each (minimum 20 coins).
