It has come time . . .

ajaanajaan Posts: 17,455 ✭✭✭✭✭
to get rid of my Canadian Collections. As some of you may remember, about 4 months ago I completed my date collection of Canadian coins. I have 8 Whitman Bookself Albums filled and one Library of Coins (5 cent pieces) filled except the spot for the 1921 5c.

I really enjoyed completing the collection, many coins were found going through the inventory of part time dealers at the local coin shows, but now that it is complete, it has come time to sell the sets and start something completely different. I would like to sell the albums complete, that is, I don't want to only sell the key date coins, and I don't want to sell each coin individually. There are over 500 coins in the collection.

The questions is, how to sell them? Does anyone know of a dealer who would buy this type of material? The coins grade G- BU.

That's the trouble with albums. So much fun to fill them up and yet so difficult to sell afterwards, noone seems to want a complete set. Do not ebay them. I'm sure that you will find somebody at the right show.

  • I guess it is too much of a pain to take the coins out, put them in 2 x 2's and sell them raw. That would seem to be the way to go to get the most money though

  • Selling on a major Canadian coin auction might be a good choice. Torex auction is a nice example.

    Good luck!

I have sold once in the TOREX auction and got burned badly. The auctioneer estimated a value of C$4000-5000 and the set sold for C$2400.

Don't know if sets of circulated coins will be the type of material auction bidders would be interested in.

I think Don is apt to try to collect all 26,402 1937 British proof sets.

I think he is gonna buy up all the surviving George III crowns in existence, pour them out onto the floor of a big cave, and sit atop the heap like Smaug.

(He will also devote his spare time in the cave to cultivating mushrooms, so he will not be forced to eat the British crowns in his hoard, which are extremely crunchy and rather flavorless).

Get a table at a popular show. Elevated chances to sell at better prices to dealer(s) or collector(s) and probably worth the fees. You go to these shows anyway.
