It's for sale on ebay for $3,999. Seller calls this "monster toning". I call it butt ugly. What's this ring under tiara crown? Is this a clashed die? Look at the awesome circular break.
Nice fingerprint on the reverse too. Lot of interesting marks on the obverse...not sure what is up with the ring etc. Looks to sharp to be a die break IMO. Also, strike on obverse looks pretty weak or is circulated and toning covers up the wear. Reverse looks OK however.
hmm that thing is in a NGC holder, i figured it would be in a NTC or something like that labeled as MS66, atleast they do have a make an offer with the BIN price. Heres what they say in the description about the break We have been advised it appears to be the VAM-1G instead of the VAM-1H "Pony Tail Die Brake" variety. We are not VAM experts but If you collect variety, either would be very rare in this grade
I would buy it for the VAM....Colors are off and there are too many hits for this to be a 66....hell look at the rev on the wing. Don't need a loupe to see that one coming.
This is a very dumb ass thread. - Laura Sperber - Tuesday January 09, 2007 11:16 AM
Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.
It's one of those pieces that you should be able to buy cheap and then get a big boost in registry points. From that perspective, I guess you could say that it's a bargain.
BUT from all other perspectives the coin is, well, ugly.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
