A new half cent for my dansco that I picked up this week

Very common date, not sure but could be cleaned and retoined. Has a neat die crack and some sort of clash/planchet flaw on the obv just in front of the portrant. What do the early copper guys think?

A lot, in fact probably the vast majority of 19th century coins have had a cleaning at one time. As long as the coin has not been harshly dealt with, has minimal hairlines and doesn't looked washed out, it should be acceptable. I like it.

Possibly lightly cleaned, but long ago, IMO. It's a keeper, though

That being said---Is that a real nice doubled reverse on that one?
I am not up on the series but that looks to be major ubber cool reverse doubling on the HALF CENT.
You may have a nice DDR there
<<Love the obverse die crack, but that issue going on in front of the portrait is a major distraction.

The die crack is super cool IMO. The area in front of the portrait is not so distracting in hand and I'm not sure if its part of a clash or just some planchet flaw; but overall it adds to the coin for me. Perhaps someone more versed in half cents can comment on the doubling on the rev. It shows on the center lettering but none of the rest of the design or lettering seems affected. Just guessing but if the letters were hand stamped on the die it might explain this.

Definitely clash marks in front of the chin. I'm not sure, but probably the middle leaf under (S)TA(TES). The recutting on the H and C of HALF CENT are characteristic of the die.
I am NOT an expert on half cents, but am trying to learn about the series, especially the Draped Bust half cents. I've been perusing my copy of Breen's Encyclopedia of U. S. Half Cents (even though it makes me feel very dirty) and it looks like you have a Cohen-1. Personally, I think the Breen book is pretty lousy, and it gets off to a bad start with the megalomaniacal frontispiece. He didn't even mention the die cracks for this variety, but does for another die pairing. I believe this information to be correct- maybe someone else can correct me...
Looks to me like the piece was nicely recolored, but it's still an attractive piece. When I see recolored pieces, my initial reaction is #$@!!!- why would someone do that!!! But then I tell myself that, chances are, the coin was recolored for a reason, and there is a good chance that the coin would look much worse if had not been treated. Who knows... a good recoloring may have been the saving grace for your old copper.
coins, so t hey usually come well struck. Mine's RB and has nice color; many RB old copper coins are splotchy, though.

I like it. The left obverse field shows some clash marks, though there may be some repaired scratches in them also. I wouldn't want to say that definiately from the photo though.
It is a C-1 variety (common). More importantly, it appears to be an unlisted die state! Neither Manley, Cohen, nor Breen list an obverse die crack for this variety. Congradulations if this is so!
