Darkside song thread

(In response to a Liteside thread about coins in songs.)

Can anybody top my ten BU sovereigns? image

"The Wild Rover", traditional Irish folksong

I've been a wild rover for many a year,
And I've spent all my money on whiskey and beer,
But now I'm returning with gold in great store,
And I never will play the wild rover no more.

Chorus
And it's no, nay, never
No, nay, never, no more,
Will I play the rover
No never, no more.

I went down to an ale house I used to frequent,
And I told the landlady my money was spent.
I asked her for credit, but she answered me "Nay.
Such custom like yours I could have any day."

Chorus...

[Traditional version of this verse:]
So I pulled from my pocket a handful of gold
And upon the round table, it glittered and rolled
She said, "We have whiskey and beer of the best,
What I told you before twas only in jest!"

[Alternate, more contemporary version:]
I took from my pocket ten sovereigns bright,
And the landlady's eyes opened wide with delight,
She said, "I have whiskeys and wines of the best,
For the words that you told me were only in jest."
[OR: And I'll take you upstairs, and I'll show you the rest."]

Chorus...

I'll go home to my parents, confess what I've done,
And I'll ask them to pardon their prodigal son.
And if they caress me as oft times before,
I never will play the wild rover no more!

Chorus...

I used to be able to play it - I'm sure I'll have it worked out in a jiffy though.

Saw a local singer/songwriter last night - he plays a nylon string acoustic and draws beautiful melodies from it. I was in the front row, centre, 6 foot in front of him. It was great.

    The Magic Bus
    Pete Townshend

Every day I get in the queue (Too much, the Magic Bus)
To get on the bus that takes me to you (Too much, the Magic Bus)
I'm so nervous, I just sit and smile (Too much, the Magic Bus)
Your house is only another mile (Too much, the Magic Bus)
Thank you, driver, for getting me here (Too much, the Magic Bus)
You'll be an inspector, have no fear (Too much, the Magic Bus)
I don't want to cause no fuss (Too much, the Magic Bus)
But can I buy your Magic Bus? (Too much, the Magic Bus)
    Nooooooooo!

I don't care how much I pay (Too much, the Magic Bus)
I wanna drive my bus to my baby each day (Too much, the Magic Bus)
Every day you'll see the dust (Too much, the Magic Bus)
As I drive to my baby in my Magic Bus (Too much, the Magic Bus)
Magic Bus, Magic Bus, Magic Bus
Magic Bus, Magic Bus, Magic Bus
Give me a hundred (Magic Bus)
She goes like thunder (Magic Bus)
I won't take under (Magic Bus)
    It's a bus-age wonder
I want it, I want it, I want it
You can have her for one hundred pounds

    You can't have it!
Think how much I'll save on bus fare
    You can't have it!

    Thruppence and sixpence every day
Just to drive to my baby
    Thruppence and sixpence every day
'Cause I drive my baby every way

But I wanna bye your magic bus
I wanna bye your magic bus
    Magic bus, goes like thunder
Magic bus, I won't take under
Magic bus, I won't take under
Magic bus, It's a bus age wonder
    I wan't it, Iwan't it, I wan't it,etc
Magic bus, magic bus, magic bus

    Rose Rounds – Traditional

    Rose, Rose, Rose, Rose,
Shall I ever see the wed?
I will marry at my will sire
    At my will

    Hey ho, nobody’s home
Meat nor drink nor money have I none
    Still I will be merry
    ...

The road is very muddy my shoes are very thin
I have a little pocket to put a penny in

    How about:

John Cafferety and The Beaver Brown Band
    "On the Dark Side"

    The dark side's callin' now
    Nothin' is real
She'll never know just how I feel
    From out of the shadows
    She walks like a dream
    Makes me feel crazy
    Makes me feel so mean

    Ain't nothin' gonna save you
    From a love that's blind
You slip to the dark side
    Across that line
On the dark side, oh yeah
On the dark side, oh yeah

    The dark side's callin' now
    Nothin' is real
She'll never know just how I feel
    From out of the shadows
    She walks like a dream
    Makes me feel crazy
    Makes me feel so mean

    Ain't nothin' gonna save you
    From a love that's blind
You slip to the dark side
    Across that line
On the dark side, oh yeah
On the dark side, oh yeah

    Ain't nothin' gonna save you
    From a love that's blind
You slip to the dark side
    Across that line
On the dark side, oh yeah

Early in the evenin' just about supper time
Over by the courthouse they're starting to unwind
Four kids on the corner trying to bring you up
Willy picks a tune out and he blows it on the harp

    (Chorus)
Down on the corner, out in the street
Willy and the Poorboys are playin'
Bring a nickel; tap your feet

Rooster hits the washboard and people just got to smile
Blinky, thumps the gut bass and solos for a while
Poorboy twangs the rhythm out on his kalamazoo
Willy goes into a dance and doubles on kazoo

    Chorus

    Chorus

You don't need a penny just to hang around
But if you've got a nickel, won't you lay your money down?
Over on the corner there's a happy noise
People come from all around to watch the magic boy

Buddy, can you spare a Gothic Crown?
Well, you know me luck's been headed down
But, give me a Gothic Crown
And then you'll see my frown
    Turning upside down
    Into a smile

Buddy, can you spare some Darkside Gold
You know the world has become cruel and cold
But, give me some Darkside Gold
    Be generous and bold
    And watch me mouth unfold
    Into a smile

At least how 'bout a Marty weeny coin?
    I don't care if it's been purloined
    A MadMarty weeny coin
    I could call all mine
    You'd see me pearly's shine
    As I smiled

    Artist: Julie Andrews (Mary Poppins)
Song: Feed The Birds (Tuppence A Bag)

Early each day to the steps of Saint Paul's
The little old bird woman comes.
In her own special way to the people she calls,
"Come, buy my bags full of crumbs.
Come feed the little birds, show them you care
And you'll be glad if you do.
    Their young ones are hungry,
    Their nests are so bare;
All it takes is tuppence from you."
Feed the birds, tuppence a bag,
    Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag.
"Feed the birds," that's what she cries,
While overhead, her birds fill the skies.
All around the cathedral the saints and apostles
Look down as she sells her wares.
Although you can't see it, you know they are smiling
Each time someone shows that he cares.
Though her words are simple and few,
Listen, listen, she's calling to you:
"Feed the birds, tuppence a bag,
    Tuppence, tuppence, tuppence a bag."
GO AHEAD! I DOUBLE-DOG DARE YOU TO RATE ME A 1!

    Bad Penny by Rory Gallagher

Well, like a bad penny you've turned up again,
You're in my sights, there's a mist on my lens.
I think you know how it was when I tripped and fell,
Well, you double-dealed me, baby and I broke like a shell.

Like a bad penny you've sure lost the glow
But I'm out of reach, your smile's sure gone cold.
Well, it can't ever be like it was then,
Well, don't you fool with me, baby,
Don't you mess with my plans.

Some stormy nights, your memory haunts me,
    You won't go away.

Well, like a bad penny you have turned up in the change,
Try to fit into the picture, you can't get inside the frame.
I think you know I'm still sore, but I'm on the mend,
Times sure have changed, it won't happen again.

Well, like a bad penny spins around and around,
Well, you won't know what's gone wrong when it all falls down,
You got to learn from now on to stop playing games,
You ought to keep on moving, you got to spin on your way.

Some lonely nights, I hear you calling,
    Won't you go away?

Well, like a bad penny you have turned up again,
You're in my sights, there's a mist on my lens.
I think you know how it was when I tripped and fell,
Well, you double-dealed me, baby, I cracked like a shell.

The version I learned had a Turkish enemy:

"Oh, I would give you silver
and I would give you gold,
    And my own fairest daughter
    your bonny bride shall be,
If you will swim along side
    of the Spanish enemy
and sink her in the Lowland,
    Lowland low
And sink her in the Lowland sea.

    YOU GOT THE SILVER
    (M. Jagger/K. Richards)

Hey babe, what's in your eyes?
I saw them flashing like airplane lights
You fill my cup, babe, that's for sure
I must come back for a little more

You got my heart you got my soul
You got the silver you got the gold
You got the diamonds from the mine
Well that's all right, it'll buy some time

Tell me, honey, what will I do
When I'm hungry and thirsty too
Feeling foolish, and that's for sure
Just waiting here at your kitchen door?

Hey baby, what's in your eyes?
Is that the diamonds from the mine?
What's that laughing in your smile?
    I don't care, no, I don't care

Oh babe, you got my soul
You got the silver, you got the gold
It's just your love, just leave me blind
I don't care, no, that's no big surprise

C'mon guys, its so obvious - the money song from Monty Python?

I've got ninety thousand pounds in my pajamas,
I've got forty thousand French francs in my fridge,
I've got lots of lovely lira, Now the Deutschmark's getting dearer,
And my dollar bills would buy the Brooklyn Bridge.

There is nothing quite as wonderful as money,
There is nothing quite as beautiful as cash,
    Some people say it's folly,
But I'd rather have the lolly,
With money you can make a splash.

There is nothing quite as wonderful as money,
There is nothing like a newly minted pound
Everyone must hanker for the butchness of a banker,
It's accountancy that makes the world go round (Round Round Round)

You can keep your Marxist ways for it's only just a phase,
For it's money, money, money makes the world go round!
(Money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money, money!)
