What I have found out is in alot of the packs the gum has soaked thru most of the red panels. I cant get 1 panel in red without problems.

the red panels have been the most difficult for me as well.

    Thanks,

I just wanted to confirm with at least one of you that PSA will grade these if you separate these panels using something like a razor? I guess it applies to all perforated cards . . . does PSA want to see proof of the perforations or is the answer to that question based on each issue? In this case the 81's have straight perforations, but I can think of some panels (such as STAR panels) that have that curved perforation. Any advice?

I completely agree, I have 15-20 Red Perezs and all of them are off center.

    thevon,
you may get mixed responses on your question. i've seen them grade with razor cut and hand torn. they "do" want to see the perforations is my understanding and they do look at the corners as any other card. someone posted a psa 10 keith hernandez a few weeks back and they may can chime in with their experience. the 9s i have received on the separated ones have all been hand torn.

    Thanks,

Yeah, that Hernandez was mine. I sort of did a test and cut them with a razor blade. I did really well. Since then I have heard horror stories of people getting the whole stack back as evid of trim and PSA keeps the fees. I have another batch ready to go but these I tore at the perforations. PSA 10's don't sell for enough to take the risk of losing all my grading costs. If you try cutting them with a blade, I'd suggest only doing a couple per submission just in case they keep all the money.

I recently purchased a box of these off of eBay. I guess that due to the apparent inconsistency of PSA's stance on these cards, if I get anything good I'll just take the guess work out of it and submit them as a panel. It's too bad though because I like the look of the single card in the slab.

Or maybe I'll submit one or two razor cut singles and a couple hand torn just to see. It seems like a waste of money though: cut them with a razor and lose your grading fees, tear them by hand and get 7s or 8s.

Just remember that 1/3 of the cards will instantly be not submittable because of gum stains on the back.

Use the razor to just 'start' the tear on each corner, and then perforate the cards by hand. This way you get the mint corners, and PSA doesn't grade down for the perforated edges.

We must think alike Boo. That's exactly how I did this next batch to ensure sharp corners.

That's a great suggestion. I'll try that. Thanks for the idea!
  • I wonder if that suggestion would work for my squirts?
Been to afraid to try them after doing a couple and they didnt turn out that great IMO.

Looking for Sutton's PSA 7 or Higher
  • I'm sure that technique will work on most perforated cards. I'm just weighing the chances of a grader accepting them or not. I'm considering doing these as a set. I have to many irons in the fire as it is but I really like these cards.
