Yankee Fans are the Best Fans in the World -- Unless you are in a slump, of course

ConnecticoinConnecticoin Posts: 12,868 ✭✭✭✭✭
The Yankee fans are booing A-Rod and trashing him in the papers. If they want to be that way, fine, but stop calling yourselves the "best fans in the world" -- what a load of crap. After 26 World Championships, "least grateful fans in the world" would be more accurate.

A-Rod is the reigning MVP, and a proven performer who has ALWAYS worked his way out of slumps (usually against the Red Sox!). Yet Yankee fans have lost their patience with him already. Well, after that lack of support, maybe THIS time he will STAY in his slump.

By the way, how many Red Sox fans did you see trashing Jason Varitek for his slow start?

Yankee 'fans' and the press have been absolutely crushing this guy since day 1.

"he's not clutch" "he hasn't won championships" yadda yadda yadda.

You're right - they don't appreciate the fact they have one of, if not the, best player in the AL on their team.
  • Why am I going to cheer for someone who isn't producing up to their abilities? I'll always cheer for the Yankees but I'll be the first guy to tell you Cashman doesn't deserve his job and deserves to be fired. Hell I'm happy as a pig in you-know-what for getting Arod as cheap as the Yanks did, but it's really a case of "what have you done for us lately". Yankees fans expect the best, and that's what we've become accustomed to.

You guys were crushing him LAST year, when he was winning the MVP!

Yankees fans don't 'expect the best', they simply feel entitled their fantasy roster should win world series year after year.

If that was a serious statement, I apologize for laughing.

I am no A-Rod fan, but it's hardly his fault that the Yankees are in their current state. He's pretty much done more than what's been asked of him - and, he changed positions when it's obvious he (and the team) would be better off with him at SS. Maybe the fans want him to pitch a few innings?

Well see thats where those 26 World Championships come into play, I am serious. I'm going to watch regardless if the Yanks are in contention or not but Steinny d@mn well better field a competitive team. Your a Soxs fan, you know how if felt to see them win that WS. Now imagine if that had happened more than one time the past 80 years. Who know's if the Yanks would be better off with him at SS, it is obvious to me who the better SS is(Arod...duh) but Jete has a weak arm and I doubt he could consistently make the same throws as Arod could. IMO, ARod is/was better at both positions. But he hasn't proved anything yet. To me so far he's just the MLB version of Peyton Manning a boatload of meaningless stats. Now, when he starts to atleast put the ball into play(minus the DP's) and not striking out as much(check the numbers on him) then I'll cheer even harder for him. I don't boo him, but I also don't pay for tickets to the game him(I don't liive in the NY area, and when I go a buddy has season tix so I'm taken care of).

How is the team better off with him at SS ?

You want people to cheer him every time he strikes out ?

Should we cheer for him every time he muffs one at 3rd in a big game ?

Does he deserve to be looked up to for every contrived, fake word he speaks ?

The guy is a head case. Go do a little background research on him. He has seen a " mental coach " ( thats shrink to you and me) EVERY single day for the last 10 years. Doesnt that say something about him ? I know ahtletes today, particularly baseball players and golfers see sports psychologists, but EVERY day ?? Does he really need someone to pat him on the back and give him encouragement EVERY day ? Its simple, HE gave up his position to come to NY. Nobody forced him to. He gave it up so he could come to NY and jump on the bandwagon thinking he could get a free ride to a World series ring. Now that he isnt producing he is getting what he deserves, criticism. He came here touted as the best in the game today, and one of the best ever, not to mention the highest paid ever. When you come with that resume, you are expected to produce, and when you dont you will receive more blame and criticism than the average player. He doesnt like it, to bad, he dug his own grave. Anyone outside NY doesnt like it, to bad. Maybe people outside NY are happy with a guy who puts up numbers on a losing team, but more is expected here, especially from this clown you all think walks on water. I will be very happy the day he either gets traded or finishes his contract here.

For the record, I do not blame Arod for the situation the Yankees are in ( which last I checked is still only a few games out of the best record in baseball despite all the injuries ).

You yankee fans are un-fu**ing-real, you know that?

He comes to NY, wins a friggin MVP award, and he gets stuck with this 'he's not clutch' crap. Please, are you serious?

He sees a shrink, so what? How do you know he's getting 'pats on the back' and not working through issues, namely, being in a pissy town like new york? Winning MVP awards while the crybaby fans whine about his performance? About an ungracious boss who calls him out, not even by name, but as 'the third baseman' because he had a bad game?

I'd love to see him go somewhere where he's appreciated as a truly special player, and not by a bunch of spoiled brat 'fans' who think because he makes $25 million a year he should homer every time out.

Geez, you Yankee fans are brutal!!

Pay-Rod is still hitting .280 with 13 hrs and 45 RBI thru 60 games. Really not too bad a "slump"!!

Perhaps some highlights of the great Yankees teams of the Winfield/Mattingly era (circa 1982-1994) will give you spoiled fans a reality check!

I remember those Yankee teams very well. They were some of the happiest times for me. Mattingly was and is my favorite player ever, and I would gladly watch any rerun of his at bats over Arods.

Now that you have pointed out Arods .280 ave 13 hrs and 45 rbi's go check the rest of baseball and tell me how many other players have similar numbers. I would be willing to bet there are at least 30-40 players with at least that stat line. Shouldnt the guy who came here with the tag of games greatest and highest paid be showing alot more ? Should we not expect more ?

Another stellar 0-4 night with 3 strikeouts. I guess he should have been cheered for showing up and tying his shoes without help. The boos will keep coming, and his mental coaches phone will keep ringing. There is nowhere to hide and he is starting to feel it. Poor guy, I feel so bad for him and his 250 million. Maybe all of NY should send him a big sympathy card to help him break out of the slump.

The A-Rod "thing" here is quite comical. It is amazing that any of you Yankee haters would feel the need to start a entire whole thread about feelings towards how A-Rod is being viewed in NY.

You all cry about how everything seems to revolve around NY media hype and then just compound that by starting threads about how NY fans might view one of their players. Why in the world would you clowns even care? image

How about worrying about the SAD and DISMAL Red Sox pitching staff aside from Jon Paplebon and Curt Schilling Sox fans? Nooooooo, you are all worried about why A-Rod is getting booed in NY. Could you all get any more LAME than this? image

I wouldn't use the words "sad" and "dismal" to describe the current pitching state of the Sox, and Beckett will be just fine Dan - check with me in a few months and see how he is.

I wouldn't expect you guys to cheer A-Rod when he goes 0-4, with 3K's. But, many people put him in the top 2 or 3 players in the game, and with the embarrassment of riches the Yankees have had over the last decade or so, you guys are lucky to have him - and don't realize it. That's it, I am not saying another good thing about the damn guy...

Nice game tonight by Wang, BTW. image

    Jerry,

Why do you guys even CARE about who NY fans are booing? Why? Is it THAT interesting to you outside of New York? Don't you all know that NY fans in GENERAL have booed EVERYBODY who has ever put on a football, hockey, basketball, or baseball uniform in its history besides Don Mattingly?

First let me clarify -- Mattingly was a great player, and he deserved much better than the teams he had to play for. My focus was to remind you Yankee fans of the 1982-94 Yankee Dark Era.

Second, no, you do not need to cheer for A-Rod when he strikes out. But to boo him and get on his case for hitting .280 and on being on a 120 RBI pace is ludicrious!! Especially when you know he is fully capable of finishing the year hitting .320 or higher, with 140 RBI. As a reminder, the Yanks are still getting decent value with the Rangers paying $9mm of his salary every year!

If I had the "greatest fans in the world" cheering for me, I would expect a little more support. How long are you guys going to cut Damon slack (he's only hitting .290) until you get on his case?

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,661 ✭✭✭✭✭
I will add that is obvious to me why people would bring this up, When there was talk about Arod coming to Boston the Yankees stepped up and bought him and it was a huge thing. They got em and he hasn't brought a championship and fans are booing him. Who cares? Arod is a great player and New York would be less of a team without him. I can see Sox fans loving it but again we would take him anytime. At least i would.

You yankee 'fans' are so damned spoiled from having every all star free agent you want on your team, you can't recognize a truly great player right in front of you! Where's the hate for Giambi and Sheffield, 2 self-admitted cheaters? Where's the hate for randy johnson, a pitcher who is being paid more from the yankees than Arod, and has been absolutely awful this year?

You yankee fans are absolutely, totally, and completely CLASSLESS when it comes to your treatment of Arod. I can't wait until he's no longer playing for you clowns.

<< <i>By the way Ax, have you ever been to NY ? Just wondering, since you know it as a pissy town so well. >>

Nope. At some point I will do a nice east coast tour, but there's so much more to do and see on the west (the BEST) coast!

softy posts in the 'ny fans rool' thread that:

    << <i>
I have been HOPING all of you guys would just let them over hype everything NY amongst themselves.
    >>

Yet he has posted SEVEN times in this thread!

Hypocrisy is a stinky cologne, softy.

There has been PLENTY of negative feedback about both Giambi AND Sheffield here on these boards from me and other Yankee fans. Every Yankee fan on this forum except ONE has expressed interest in seeing both of them leave town.
