Well, the truth has been uncovered (although I don't know how legal that is) and I guess I'll pencil in everybody for 10k. I'm just kidding, but I hope this puts some of your minds at ease that I have no relationship to this other Ryan and I am not trying to scam you. I'm simply trying to get a great deal for all of us.
Were you joyridesally? If you were, why didn't you just put I'm checking your location through didtheyreadit.com? I typed you a serious reply. I'm guessing that you aren't serious.

I've had some fun at your expense.
For this I apologize - I'm still incredulous to your deal since I think, even if it were a good one, it would be difficult to divide equitably.
Nobody really meant anything personal against you - it's all in the timing.
If you were a member here for a few years and presented this? It would be a different story.
So, as one of the "instigators" - I want to wish you all the best and I hope you pick up some good deals.
And, yes, some of us are classic collectors with mounds of stick time and have had our share of lumps and sometimes, react commensurately.
Wizardsguildcards--your police station made me chuckle.
about 3 weeks ago i just met an ebay seller to do a cash deal for 2 graded mantle rookies in cash. i am the one who requested a police station by him. but i also took an armed off duty cop with me who i am very close friends with. this keeps everyone safe. the deal went thru wihout a hitch.
I too appologize to the OP, but the listing still has the smell of bad fish to it.
The seller would have to be a real idiot to list the item the way he did.
I still think the flip on the 1953 looks like it says 196X cannot read the last number. Best way to prove the authenticity of this listing would be to ask the seller to provide you up close individual pics of 10 of the Mantles. The pics need to show the case and card all at the same time.
I agree the listing will most likely get pulled not just for the charity thing, but Ebay has been pulling listings from new sellers presenting deals like this. This seller has no previous selling history.
Nothing against anyone here, but I would not venture into a huge deal such as this with most board members. I really have not met any of them and would not feel comfortable splitting a few thousand on a auction. This is not a small deal you are asking them to particpate in.
So, If I ever came up with a bright idea of buying a $30,000 lot of vintage cards, would you guys trust me since I have been on here for some years now?

Sorry...I had to laugh...this thread kind of reminded of Beckett...lol I actually had to glance up and check the url to be sure I was in the right spot lol
Why is the seller not selling individually or through an auction house / dealer?
Ryan - if you're in Phoenix you may have more success in advertising to buy cards from individuals. The influx of retirees in Arizona certainly would turn up collections to be had at modest prices.
We know cards pretty well, so it is tough for a scam artist to pull a fast one on us. But we can never be too cautious with these kinds of people. What if this was an area of expertise in another arena like watches, cars or coins?
Scam artists prey on the unknowing. None of us are experts in all things. So, while we may have seen it all in baseball cards, what about indoor plumbing, repairs on post-2000 Mercedes or Jaguar, appliance repair facility, home remodeling....?
Scam artists are some of the nicest people on the surface. They are trying to gain your trust and thus put your guards down. I have found through a friend in the automotive business just how much of what they do has little to do with getting the car the repair it needs. It has all to do with selling the customer stuff that are not essential--premature shock and strut replacement, etc. The same with appliance repair and home remodeling.
With knowledge, a scam artist does not stand a chance. Hopefully we all have the right connections of people to consult with when requiring service for the car, the house or even getting dental work. Capitalism was suppose to be all about the consumer choosing to buy the better mousetrap, but what we really have is who can make the consumer think that their product is superior. The better scam artist one is, the more success in business. The better mousetrap that you make has little relevance today.

my opinion is it's a scam auction... anyone buying that is out of their mind if they don't at least demand escrow, which i would bet anything the seller will refuse.. oh, and put me down for 5 G's..
Sorry, all I have to work with is a digital camera. From the scan that is on the listing you can see it is a solid psa 6 centered very nice with no qualifiers. It is consistent with the rest of the psa 6 mantles, if nothing else it could possibly be closer to a seven. Thanks. -Ryan-

Q: Is this the lowest starting bid you are willing to go. I might have a group of buyers that are willing to make this purchase for less. -Ryan Jun-01-06
A: Thanks for the question. I know it's a high starting price, I did it this way instead of setting a reserve. If broken down for individual resale at SMR prices there is a profit to be made. I would like to see what type of interest is out there for this collection. If towards the end nobody is willing to make a bid and you're still interested I'de be willing to discuss a deal. Thanks again. -Ryan-

Thanx for the readout.
I'm kind of tired - isn't it just confirming what Ryan said - they both live in different states?

Your welcome.
22 years in the service and having heard every story a soldier can tell. This www.didtheyreadit.com has caught a lot of troops.
Were you joyridesally? If you were, why didn't you just put I'm checking your location through didtheyreadit.com? I typed you a serious reply. I'm guessing that you aren't serious.
My questions were serious to you and legit.
All I asked you were these real cards and that I saw your listing on Collectors Universe.
I never stated anything about being serious or about the listing or that I was interested.
Thanks,
Mark
