Is there a ebay seller you'd swear by?

Not swear at, but swear by.
I'm looking for a list of reputable ebay coin dealers.
Post them here if you have anyone in mind.
If there's already a thread existing somewhere
relating to this subject, point me to it please.

A few dealers that come up during my searches are
Rella(Roger's coins , I think)
Weinberg (Fred)
Dabigkahuna (Larry)
I have a few comrades on the boards that I joust back and forth with on ebay, too. Some same type collectors end up in the same auctions a lot of times, but overall....it's a free for all out there.

Its hard finding the good ones in my buy list. I can find more that sold me less than advertised back when starting out.
Got any leads on people who specialize in these categories?
I guess what I'm looking for is reputable sellers who deal in
modern stuff and they ship fast, have integrity and offer refunds
if you're not satisfied.

<< <i>Look for someone with a lot of feedback and high percentage of positive feedback. Read through and see if you can find some of the negatives and read what they said. I have 1 negative feedback about a year ago from some seller that never sent me an item (one reason I'll start a buying only account now that I'm using my account). Something like that should not be a problem. Check for refund policy. It also might help to look through what they are selling and have sold. If most of what they sell are crap then I'd stay away unless its PCGS/NGC certified and/or a good deal.
Eric >>
Yeah, I check feedback but it's not always an accurate indicator on their integrity or knowledge.
Usually check their ID history also, which might give you a red flag on fradulent sellers.
<< <i>There are some sellers that I check regularly, but I sure as hell ain't telling you vultures.

<< <i>Oh yeah, and the sellers who overcharge for shipping is usually a great indicator to stay away. >>
People have relative terms for overcharge How is $3.95 + $1ea additional? Looking for feedback For smaller items you almost have to build in ebay and paypal fees. Its too easy to spend more on the actual sale than you get back. I've done that with personal items in the past. Remember there are a lot more costs than just the actual shipping rate posted on the envelope. Some sellers eat the cost for good PR. I would too for an item that is worth it. I had one person turn back because I wanted to charge him $6-7 for shipping to send a $2 item to Italy!

I was looking at one auction today, $8 for shipping 1 coin. That's overcharging, IMO.
<< <i>How is $3.95 + $1ea additional? >>
It depends. For cheap coins, the additional is too much. For medium value, about right. For high value, it's too little. This is why I don't use a fixed additional charge for combined shipping, but rather do it manually.

<< <i>Its really tough for raw coins on ebay. The more I deal with it the more I find its easier to just buy bulk PCGS/NGC/ANACS slabbed items at good discounts. If you have been doing this a long time and can tell easily by the pictures then raw will help with profit. There are just too many scammers out there. >>
Yes...for certain there are alot of scammers. But I think the underlying point of this thread is to separate the legitimate sellers from the scam artists. The only way to really accomplish this is on forums such as these from people that have dealt with specific vendors and their products. I'd love to purchase only slabbed coins; however, for the coins in which I have an interest, slabbed coins normally command a premium. Being able to purchase them raw usually puts them into a more attractive price range (ie...I'm able to afford it then).
I also look at feedback scores but many times it's no indicator for determining how good that raw 1908-S IHC is really going to be when it shows up at your doorstep and in your hand. I see this with antique clearing houses and estate sale managers all the time. Sure they have a feedback score in the thousands with 99.9% positive, but that does not make them any more numismatically inclined than my mechanic (he doesn't collect coins BTW...) Also, alot of folks are reticent to leave a negative feedback for fear of a reprisal negative. This comes into play when a legitimate buyer with low numbers (ie 50 or less) gets nailed by a seller with a feedback score in the thousands.
Best Regards,
Leo

Yes. I think it needs to be relative to what else is being sold at the time. Thats what I told someone for something that will probably sell between $15-$25 each for a single slab. I purchased an item over $1000 and shipping was $20 (they payed $21 for just shipping). I need to put in there next time "for similar items."

<< <i>Yes, 3 come to mind real quick. Two are board members. BigD "darin-5" and Jaderarecoin. Also, collectorUSA (Dale Wiiliams). Plus, there are a bunch of really good sellers on the boards here. Isn't there a list somewhere matching CU and eBay IDs? Is eBay seller "joivy" on the boards? I use to buy from him but can't swear by him now...been a long time.

I agree....along with people like Russ (compucheap) and some others.......I watch their auctions and would have no issues buying anything from them.
There are others that I am not quite so trusting of....even board members.

Well, I thought it was funny, anyway.
Wish I can say the same for EBAY. I wonder why I am still stupid enough to buy coins on ebay.

Nearly everything that we sold today on eBay closed for LESS than what we paid. That just confirms that the scum bag sellers on eBay have scared away most of the legitimate buyers. We sold early type coins for under bid and, after fees and the free shipping that we offer, not to mention our time, we lost a lot of money. I would have been better off to sell the group to a wholesale dealer with only 10 minutes of time invested. Conclusion: nice guys finish last.
