It was submitted about 5 months ago to PCGS came back as a F15. Was cracked out and I sent it back in to PCGS raw and it came back as a VF25. You can beat a 10 point increase.

They should never have 15 it in the first place. But then, that's how they get more mileageimage out the people playing the game. Know what I mean?

Yes I do. It was actually a 10 point decrease on the first grading try.

Since there is only two grades (VF-20 & VF-25) between the two, I would say a two point increase. That being said, they should never have graded it F-15 in the first place. Clearly a VF coin.

    Congratulations!

  • Pretty coin. I agree with the others that it was low-balled the first time through.

Nice looking bustie- I'm sure that lowballing a certain number of coins woudl be a great way to increase resubmission money....

Maybe you should have left it in the F15 holder and start some sort of registry for coins that are badly undergraded?

That coin is a VF all day long. I'd sure hate to believe they'd low ball it just to get a resubmission...then again, I also hate to think that a person calling themselves a professional grader would miss one that badly. Valuewise, that's around a $1,000 error!

    Best wishes,

Very nice bustie, and I agree it is PCGS typically graded VF25. That F15 grade was a terrible call.

The coin is a strong example of a VF25.

Grading is very subjective on circulated Bust Dollars. Not too long ago I had one that upgraded from a VF20 to an XF45.

I have two PCGS green label F15 bust dollars that I am paying on from Dick Osburn, a 1803 and a 1802/1 both are LOCK VF. I paid full VF money for them. I will probably leave them both in the undergraded PCGS F15 green label holders. I will post pictures when I pay them off in about a month or so.

I pretty much agree with the crowd in that F15 was pretty low for that thing unless there was something not obvious in a picture that caused the grader to "net" the grade.

I realize PCGS doesn't netgrade, but I believe I have seen evidence of that happening with coins that were old or rare dates and had some minor issues.

All coin grades except 70 are net grades.

There appears to be a rim bruse at 6:00 on the reverse. Maybe the first graders net-graded for this problem and the second time around this problem was ignored.

I love that coin, talk about nice & original. Clearly VF, and this may have been the case where the coin went thru with rookie staff on hand who were being overly cautious (way cautious)!!

This is an interesting coin to grade. The technical grade is VF-25, but the comparative brightness of the wear spots would make it appear that the coin has more wear than it really does. I agree with the person who posted the comment that the coin should never have gone into a Fine-15 holder. In the words of a frequent poster on these boards, the person who submitted the coin and got that grade, “got hosed.”
