No, I did not know about this. After reading the posts it is a whole new world that needs to be educated by some of the more knowledgable folks on this forum.

Yes, I did know about this for some time. However, it hardly seemed used when I last checked. I much prefer the PCGS forum.

Don't forget that if you say something stupid (or just that eBay doesn't like), your eBay account can go bye-bye...

Jeremy is correct. It is best to be very careful when posting to the eBay discussion forums.

ebay sucks. as far as I can tell, they let purveyors of fakes and counterfeits thrive while chasing away legitimate sellers.

    Interesting.

Jeremy is correct though...be careful what you do post...they're chastizing people for the most inane reasons. I'm still reeling what they did to Laura @ Legend. Just plain stupid if you ask me.

I have not sold anything on EBay as yet, but do plan on using them at a future date.

I picked one of the longer threads there to read - my goodness, there are some sadly ignorant people there pretending to be knowledgeable about coins.

And one person contacted a winning bidder to inform him the grading service of the coin he bought was a self-slabber, and one of the other posters reported him to ebay for auction interference, saying:

"...but this is serious business for me, and the last thing I need, or will allow is for a bunch overly wealthy do-gooders nitpicking my auctions...yes, I have fudged a few descriptions to gain more price...yes, I sell NNC and NTC coins at pcgs/ngc prices...I have never sold an sgs coin though, because outside of ebay, they aren't available"

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

careful, yes. but much gets into those threads that help the collector, reference the chat on the StarGradingService so-called slabber and their 'relationship' to a certain ebay seller who owns the 'service'. PF70/MS70 uber alles.
  • I was sent an invite by E bay to join and I promptly refused. I agree with what I am reading here, Ebay has become a very different place to do business over the last 3 months. IMO
  • The following are common examples of violations that may result in immediate post removal, warning, board sanction and/or suspension from the site:

Including another individual's contact information and/or email address in a post.

Including material (graphic or text) that is obscene, pornographic or adult in nature.

Using JavaScript or active code, making repetitive posts, or otherwise taking actions that interfere with site operations.

Attempting to impersonate eBay staff or other eBay members.

Encouraging others to violate eBay policies or the eBay User Agreement.

Advertising merchandise, auctions, services or commercial Web sites, including offers to trade, "wanted" posts, or charitable solicitations.

Refusing to follow eBay staff instructions.

Posting email content from private parties.

Posting material that in any way violates the eBay User Agreement or Community Values.

Posting Web addresses (URLs), item numbers or Web sites in the title of a threaded discussion.

Inappropriate threads started on Community Help Boards, i.e. eBay policy commentary started on the Community Help Registration Board.

Posting listing reports or member violations. To report suspected violations, please use the online forms on the Investigations page.

Discussing or reposting deleted posts or warning letters, or discussion of sanctioned or no longer registered members.

Wow. Someone could accidentally get in trouble over a post, and with eBay being "judge, jury and executioner" they could close your account and you'd have no recourse, no one to appeal to... scary.

Looking over a sample of the responses there, a lot of those folks seem to have a few screws loose. I think I'll stick with this forum. I *know* yall are nuts here.

  • I used the Ebay forum before I started with this forum in 2001. I've checked back on several occasions since and it is still as boring as ever. A few knowledgeable people post there but, all in all, it's not worth spending a lot of time there. JMO
