Blank Coins - no Stamp

I recently came across a penny in pocket change. It was definately a penny blank. It wasn't stamped on either side. Does anyone know how common this is. I haven't yet checked the weight to determen if it's copper or zinc.

    Blank cent planchets are the most common examples of this type of error. Have the rims been upset?

    I've actually found a couple of these in circulation myself. I think they are only worth a dollar or so.
    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible.     The mint was giving them away for free this year. I got some at Baltimore.

    I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.
